I remember when I first saw the news last December that Roxette would play on the Faroe Islands, I had to read it twice. We had been already a bit surprised at the band playing in France where the fan base is not too huge. [However, all the French Roxers out there did deserve a show after all those years without seeing Roxette live and it turned out to be a magical sold out gig at L’Olympia.] Then all of a sudden, there was the announcement of the Faroe Islands. It’s really too cool that during the XXX tour Roxette reach countries and cities they’ve never toured before.
How many Faroese Roxers are there? Well, the population of the islands is approximately 50,000 and the festival in Klaksvík where the band played last night had 10,000 visitors. Which other country can tell that 1/5 of the population went to see Roxette? Haha. Amazing!
The weather conditions were not too favourable. It was cold, it was raining and so there was mud all around, but those who went to see Roxette didn’t care about it. They enjoyed the sold out gig regardless. They showed they knew the lyrics, they were jumping, clapping and had a fab night hearing all the greatest hits.
For open air gigs in the not too hot summer, heaters for Marie are an essential part of the stage. What is not too common is both Marie and Per wearing white. We hoped for white outfits at least at one Swedish show, but unfortunately, Per’s white trousers and shirts remained hidden in his wardrobe. The beautifully green Faroe Islands deserved to see those clothes. How about keeping them for the rest of the tour this year? 😉
The stage was built a bit differently versus previous concerts. There was a catwalk that ended up in a smaller front stage very close to the audience to which of course, Per and Chris ran down the most often. It looked fab, however, this way the main stage was a bit too far away from the front row. In this short video you can see what I’m talking about. They also used screens so that everyone in the back could see very well what was happening on stage. This time the screens showed everything in color, not black & white as at previous Rox shows with screens during this tour.
Per & Co. after the Faroese bonanza:
FAROE ISLAND UPDATE: Oh yeah! Truly fab gig! Sold out, 10.000 amazing people came and had a blast. We love this place. Hope to come back! Thanx for having us!!!! /P&Co
Unbelievable, but only 2 concerts are left for this year. Next stop is Vasa, Finland on 15th August. That show is also expected to be sold out.
