Official US tour press release – Roxette to play in New York, Boston, San Francisco & Los Angeles

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., April 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/

Three years after their 2009 comeback, Swedish pop phenomenon Roxette are hotter than they’ve been since their early ’90s heyday. Roxette’s world tour is in full swing with almost one million concert tickets sold since the tour kicked off a year ago at the Tatneft Arena in Russian Kazan. On top of that, another million Roxette records have been added to the already dizzying 70 million they’ve sold over the years.

So far the band has played more than 85 shows in more than 30 countries (and the trip continues—they don’t plan to rest until they’ve played 150 shows). But besides zigzagging between airports, arenas, hotels and meeting with fans from all over the world, the band also has found time to record their new album, Travelling, to be released digitally in the U.S. on June 5 by Capitol/EMI.

The idea has been to tap into all the positive energy that has boosted the band during this dazzling trip, and channel it into new Roxette music. In short, an album that, just like 1992’s Tourism, captures the feeling of a band on a roll—constantly on the move, snatching inspiration as they go; recording in hotel rooms, studios, at soundchecks and in concert.

The result is a fascinating musical postcard with 15 superb songs, most of which are new, some that are revisited classics and others being pearls that for various reasons haven’t seen the light of day before. A tight and inspired band has gathered around a batch of Gessle tunes, where the relentless hit-maker again and again proves that his sense of melody and ability to surprise is still top-notch.

“It’s Possible” is the first taster from Travelling – 2 minutes and 34 seconds of sunny pop music that shows one of Roxette’s many sides in 2012. There’s more to come.

Rumour: Roxette to play in Toronto

The news seem to have been circulating for a few days now. It is however still not confirmed at this point.

We have received some messages from fans indicating that Roxette are to play at Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto on August 30, 2012. But again, as mentioned above, the date is still not confirmed and the information we could find was published on ticket reseller websites.

Per Gessle commented in Facebook some weeks ago that they would probably be in Canada end of August and in US in September (Articles no 1, no 2 and no 3).

We will post the official information and the link to the official ticket seller when we receive it from Live Nation. For now we can only recommend to wait a little bit and avoid super expensive reseller websites.

Roxette to play in Chile, Paraguayan concert cancelled

Arnaldo Mariano Suarez informed us that Roxette is to play in Santiago de Chile for the second time during this amazing World Tour. Their gig is scheduled for Saturday, May 5 at Espacio Riesco and tickets should go on sale tomorrow, March 22. Previously it was said that Roxette might play a concert a day before Buenos Aires date on April 23, but it was officialy denied by Roxette management.

The concert in Asunción, Paraguay, was scheduled for the same date, May 5th and Live Nation has confirmed that the concert has been cancelled. They have never cancelled any date on the current tour being on sale before – except Auckland because Per fell ill. Here is the official statment from Paraguayan organizators:

The promoters T4F & Escenario are affraid to communicate the cancellation of the concert “Roxette Charm School” which was scheduled on May 5th 2012.

The cancellation is due to the fact that Roxette will perform a concert on a date too close, in the city of Santiago de Chile, which creates logistical problems such as lack of time and flight links that makes their concert not possible in our country.

The Producers also report that the return of the tickets for the concert “Roxette Charm School” will be held from Wednesday, March 28 until Wednesday, April 4 2012, from 09:00 to 12:00 and 14:30 to 17:30.

Here is the scan from one of Chilean papers sent us by Claudio Méndez Rojas. Thanks!

World Tour 2012: Shanghai, China – March 14 #95

Comment from Per Gessle

Thank you Shanghai! What a wonderful way to end this Oz/Asian Tour! A beautiful crowd, singing along like never before, and a brilliant band even though both Chris and Pelle had the flu. Don’t know how they survived!!!
We certainly hope to come back to this great town before long. Now we take a short break before hitting the South American way of life! And the TRAVELLING-album is gonna see the light of day in a week or two! See y’all soon!
Cheers, P&M

“Sleeping in my car” and “Opportunity nox” were skipped on the Shanghai concert – as for the second, it was very probable authorities request as for the second – I cannot find any sexual content there… The guys oparating the spotlights apparently had a difficult time: they very often had Magnus in the spotlight instead of Per, and during the solo in 727 Christopher was in the dark all the time. Shanghai is a far more international city than Beijing, which was also clear during the concert. There was a much better athmosphere outside with many street vendors, music etc. Also there was far more singing along from the audience (IMHBL, HDYD, Johride, The Look all went fin, continuing SMT when Marie stops singing was too much asked however…).

Also there was official merchandise inside the arena, but limited to the concert poster ( €1,20 :D) and the Chinese version of the Charm school Deluxe CD (without SIMC live, €8,50). Venue very full, about 90%, so it was around 10.000. Ca 5 meters from the stage to audience, but no barriers whatsoever between the front row and the stage, allowing Per to even shake hands with fans during a song (Joyride). After 1 or 2 he had to stop though, as too many people came forward.

World Tour 2012: Beijing, China – March 12 #94

Comment from Per

Per doesn’t have access to Facebook in China, this is what Rox Management wrote:

Just spoke to marie & per who had a fantastic evening in Beijing. they truly enjoyed themselves on stage and the audience were absolutely enthusastic. thanks and hope to be back again. looking forward to shanghai.

Setlist

The setlist seems to be the same as in Taipei, just that “Sleeping in my car” was skipped. Roxette were requested to slightly change the lyrics for this song the last time they played in China, but they did not agree on that. This time it seems they skipped it completely, probably due to authorities request. There was at least 5 meters from the stage to the first row and according various sources from 60% to 80% tickets sold which means around 8,000 people attending the concert – the most expensive tickets were sold out, as for the cheapest ones – not all..
