Gyllene Tider – GT40 – Karlstad – 31st July 2019 – #12

Karlstad became Gyllene Tider’s 10th sold out show on tour! 12000 people came to see the Golden Gang in Mariebergsskogen. When the gig started, I went live on our Facebook page, so HERE you can watch a video of how the guys and girls hit the stage. Starting with the Pink Panther Theme intro and performing the first setlist song, Skicka ett vykort, älskling.

PG was jumping and bouncing around in his Duracell bunny style and MP was a rock star again. The girls were dancing wildly and Göran did his Fritzon moves behind the Farfisa. Anders was moving more on stage, he even came to the left side and played there in the front. Micke did his heavy drumming and was much fun when he talked. He couldn’t find the lines between ”mmmmm” and ”grön bensin” in Låt denna trumslagarpojke sjunga!, but he was only laughing at himself. He was concentrating too much on the girls’ mmmmm part. Haha.

The crowd in Karlstad wasn’t the heaviest sing-along audience on this tour, but parts of the crowd were shouting, other parts jumping and clapping. Leva livet and Sommartider worked the best on them. Then everyone’s hands were up in the air and you could hear them singing louder.

At the end of the concert Per thanked for coming and mentioned, as he does it since some shows that without the crowd they would be nothing.

The setlist was the same as in Piteå, which means they played 21 songs and skipped Tylö Sun, as well as the 1st song in the first encore. If they are following last week’s pattern, we might hear 20 songs in Eskilstuna on Friday and 23 in Gothenburg on Saturday. Let’s see what happens!

Gyllene Tider – GT40 – Stockholm – 27th July 2019 – #11

Gyllene Tider’s Stockholm gig was originally planned to be held in Sjöhistoriska, but the ticket sales went so well that Live Nation realized the guys need a much bigger venue. So Stockholms Stadion was booked and 25512 people attended the show last night. 25512! Amazing! Just an interesting fun fact: GT played Stockholm the last time exactly 6 years ago, the same day (27th July), but then we could see them in Tele2 Arena.

There was a live sound check at 4 pm, but only Det hjärta som brinner, Puls and Vandrar i ett sommarregn were rehearsed. At that time we were waiting outside the venue and it was very hot, but fortunately, there was still shadow where we lined up. Our favourite Security Supervisor, Atli from Show Security Sweden told us we would have to be waiting outside a bit more, because inside the venue the sun was shining to all places, so it was safer to wait a bit more in the shadow. How nice! After we entered, we saw that indeed the front of stage area and one side of the seated area was in direct sunlight, but the situation got better in an hour or so. The security team took care of us during the whole event and provided water to everyone who needed to drink.

Since the venue was bigger, the stage was bigger too. Actually, the part where the band members’ fix places are was the same size, just the sides were longer. I was already wondering if Per would have enough time to run back to his mic once he walks down the whole distance to the left or to the right. Haha.

After Friday’s Dalhalla concert I didn’t expect Stockholm to be an even more energetic and powerful show, but it did happen. I think the huge audience and venue motivated the band even more and they added their 120% energy into last night. Per was in top top top shape both physically and vocally. He was awesome! MP enjoyed his being on stage like a real rock star. Micke Syd was rocking his drums and his stand up talking before his 3-minute limelight appearance was much fun. Anders came more often to the front and that we like! Good to see him being more and more into the GT40 tour. Farfisa Göran would deserve even more highlight on stage. He is now also dancing behind the Farfisa. Give him 2 more gigs and he will be acting as much of a rock star as MP already does. The girls, Dea and Malin-My are just amazing. Their backing vocals and dance choreographies and constant wide smiles on their faces! Malin-My’s multi-instrumentalist talent is also something to be highlighted.

The setlist was now 23 songs long again, which means they played Det kändes inte som maj, Tylö Sun got back too and Billy as well. Happy-happy! Mostly about the length. Some songs could be changing again from concert to concert, but it still might come next week. Or not. Haha. We’ll see.

After Det kändes inte som maj Per mentioned this is how a Saturday night looks in Stockholm, the world’s most beautiful city. Then he introduced Flickan i en Cole Porter-sång as a song from the 80’s and he informed he changes his plectrum now. He usually doesn’t state it.

The audience was just fantastic. Loud, clapping along, singing along, shouting. Great vibes all around! So sorry Dalhalla, but Stockholm just entered the top gigs charts at No. 2 for me!

Åsa filmed a lot again from different spots during the concert and Anders Roos found some extra high spots to take pictures from. Will be interesting to see those shots if we’ll have the chance one day.

Now some days off and on Wednesday we see GT again in Karlstad!

P.S.: Love seeing Aftonbladet‘s and Expressen‘s reviews. They both gave 4/5 for last nite’s show. Isn’t it cool?

Gyllene Tider – GT40 – Rättvik – 26th July 2019 – #10

Impossible, but last night we reached the tour’s halftime. 10 concerts done, 9+1 to go! The 10th GT40 gig was held in Dalhalla, Rättvik. This is definitely one of the most beautiful venues not only in Sweden, but in the world too. It is an open air theatre located in a former limestone quarry, and is used as a summer music venue. I’ve always wanted to see a concert there, but couldn’t manage until now, even if Roxette played there 2015 and Per 2017. The place is really beautiful and seeing the stage with that backdrop was amazing while the sun was still up.

The concert sold out very fast in February, but the show wasn’t just sold-out. It beat the attendance record in Dalhalla! 5926 people came to see Gyllene Tider.

After entering Dalhalla, it turned out that some fans who bought standing tickets got armbands at the entrance, while others didn’t. We were informed after asking the security girls that we wouldn’t be able to enter the standing area without the armband, so we should go back and get ourselves one… Hm. I thought it wasn’t the first ever concert they organized there. How come the ticket controllers didn’t give armbands to the standing ticket owners automatically? Whatever. We still had some time until the inner gates were opened, so we could go back to the outer entrance (fortunately, we didn’t have to go back to the very first entrance) and get ourselves the armbands.

Some minutes after entering, Micke Syd appeared in the backstage area, on the side of the stage, visible to us and we could see he was taking pictures of the venue. He had his parents, family and friends as guests for the Dalhalla show.

After the inner gates were open and we rushed to the front row, we realized that this time it might not be the best place to stand. I actually got in front of the boxes, with the speakers on top of them and this with a very high stage meant I would have literally seen nothing. So let’s say, the venue is amazing, but not the most front-row-friendly place at all. Most of the front row fans still decided to stay there, but we decided to go to the back of the standing area and watch the concert from there. Those who stayed in the front row couldn’t see all band members during the show. Göran, Micke Syd, Dea and Malin-My were too much in the back of the stage to be visible. It’s disappointing to those who attended maybe this one concert only or just 2-3 on the tour. Now that I’ve been ”forced” to stand more in the back, I had the chance to see the whole stage picture altogether. The lighting Gyllene Tider logo on top of the stage, the screens on the sides and the whole gang at the same time. And I liked what I saw!

Actually, I can tell that for me Dalhalla was the 2nd best concert on this tour so far. (No. 1 for me is still Skövde.) It’s because of the venue, the band, the audience. Per probably felt much much better, at least that’s how I saw him. He was constantly smiling, bouncing around, stomping and his vocals were in shape again. The whole band put a lot of energy into this concert. The temperature was quite hot, even Anders left his jacket behind when he came back for the encore and Per and Micke Syd were drying the sweat on their faces with towels. Despite the hot weather, all the band members were very active on stage and provided us with top entertainment.

The acoustics of the venue is wonderful! The audience was amazing too. Already during Puls they were clapping loudly, they were singing along most of the songs and from Ljudet av ett annat hjärta those who had seats started standing up. During the uptempo songs they remained standing and during the encore actually everyone got up from their seats and were either dancing or just clapping and singing along. This… (I mean the sitting crowd standing up…) happening… in Sweden! I’m impressed! It was fantastic to see how the band and the crowd connected last night.

Regarding the setlist, unfortunately, they skipped Det kändes inte som maj and Tylö Sun, as well as the first song in the usual first encore. But this time there was only 1 encore and the guys and girls played all 5 encore songs one after another. The setlist is shrinking. Not good, not good! I do hope this is only for saving Per’s voice one week after he got sick, so maybe from next week they get back to the at-least-23-songs-long setlist.

Åsa filmed a lot during the gig. Both from the side and from the front. I’m sure Anders Roos took some extra nice pictures of the 5 Golden Guys and the 2 Golden Girls at this venue.

When the concert ended and we went out to find our cars, the buffet next to the exit played GT songs and you could hear a lot of people in the leaving cars were still under the concert’s effect, listening to GT hits in the car. The old Gyllene songs sounded the best in the old-timers.

Without a day off, Stockholm calling!

Gyllene Tider – GT40 – Piteå – 24th July 2019 – #9

After the gig in Lysekil it would have been Ronneby’s turn, but as everyone knows, Per got sick and Ronneby and Kalmar have been postponed to later dates. Thank God those gigs were not cancelled, so we can still see GT in those 2 towns.

We’d been worried about Mr. G since it barely happened during his 40-year-long career that he had to cancel shows. So it must have been more serious than just man flu. We were expecting news any minute to see if the planned gig in Piteå would happen. Fortunately, 2 days before the show Per felt himself strong enough to share the info he felt much better and he confirmed the gig on Wednesday would happen. More than that, on Tuesday we got the news that the gang even decided for a last show in Halmstad on August 10th, which is awesome.

The venue in Piteå I knew from Per’s 2017 tour. Pite Havsbad is a beautiful place at the seaside. Many arrived by boats and watched the concert from the sea. This time Pite Havsbad beat their record, because now there were 13491 people in the audience. The latest record was from 2006 and then there were appr. 11600 people for a concert (John Fogerty). Not bad! Per mentioned that the last time GT played Piteå was August 1981, but then they performed at another venue.

There was no new song added to the setlist and on top of it, it was 2 songs less vs. the usual one. The guys and girls skipped Tylö Sun and the first song in the first encore. For this first gig after Per’s sickness I can understand that. One could hear that he is still not 100% healthy. He kept his voice low and saved it also on those songs on which otherwise there is more power in his singing. He didn’t save energy on his moves though. The whole band supported him very well and the crowd was very active. They were singing along loudly and clapping all the time. Before the encores they were singing mainly Sommartider, but tried out other loud vocals too. Per changed a few lines in 2-3 songs to nana lala singing, which was cute, but found the correct lines quickly. As I heard, this was the first crowd that knew most of the lyrics to Låt denna trumslagarpojke sjunga! Nice. The new songs worked very cool on this audience.

Now a day off and tomorrow the gang plays at another beautiful venue, Dalhalla!

GT after the show:

Underbara PITEÅ, tack för att vi fick komma till ert fantastiska Havsbad och dessutom få sätta PUBLIKREKORD!!! Tjohooo, Micke blev så glad att han tog en ostmacka! Och vädret var på vår sida också. Nu styr kosan imorgon mot Dalhalla. Syns vi där?

Gyllene Tider – GT40 – Lysekil – 17th July 2019 – #8

Gosh! Was it already the 8th show??? Pinneviken in Lysekil is a beautiful venue, surrounded by Swedish west coast rocks. Many decided to watch the concert from the side, so after entering, they climbed up the rocks and sat down there.

The security teams are usually very nice and kind in Sweden and we only met great people in the security teams on tour so far, but the guys in Lysekil were extra kind. A handful of fans had been waiting for long long hours before the concert and the weather was hot (fortunately, sunny all day), so the security team surprised them with some ice creams. How cool is that!

Last night’s setlist was the very same as in Uppsala, which is a bit sad, because so far there was no concert that had the same setlist as another gig. Those who go to several shows love to have at least one song changed on the setlist. Where is Vill ha ett svar, for example? Just to mention one song that we already heard on a soundcheck, but not yet on concert. Or why not adding Fån telefon or Leka med elden one day? The more concerts I see and the more familiar the setlist is, I feel like the gigs are ending in a blink after the show had started. Haha. Still, I’m very happy that the guys and girls keep the setlist 23 songs long.

The crowd in Lysekil was fab! They were singing along to all songs and clapping a lot too. They were also loud before the two encores, but BoJo came up on stage twice, stood next to the technicians and animated us to get even louder. We acted accordingly. Haha.

The band sounded fab, however, I assume there was some technical issue during the whole show, because Per was running to the left-side technicians quite a lot of times. When he started with the intro talk to Tuffa Tider, he asked the camera guy to film his ukulele, because it’s beautiful. So, probably, the shows are recorded indeed and it’s not just recordings for the screens.

Micke Syd’s intro talk to Låt denna trumslagarpojke sjunga! was very funny this time too. His wife, Helena was also there and Micke was singing to her. So lovely! Åsa was there too, singing along while filming.

Anders Roos joined GT in Lysekil too, to take some more pics. Some more thousands of pics, haha. Good for us!

If I have to point at one song that worked the best in Lysekil, I would say it was När vi två blir en, but actually, the energy level reached its top during those 5 uptempo songs from En sten vid en sjö i en skog. Our Sommartider sing-along started out as a mess, but the crowd found the real melodies and matching lyrics and then it became normal.

Per threw tons of his picks last night and also at the end of the show it was him, who took his plecs off the mic stand and threw them to the crowd. MP also got to the front at the end of the gig and threw his picks too.

Now one day off and on Friday we see GT again in Ronneby!
