Gyllene Tider – Hux Flux – Malmö – 12th July 2023 – #4

Gyllene Tider played in Malmö last night and what an amazing show they did there! Best so far on this tour! The whole gang was on fire, full of energy and the crowd was fantastic too. Loud, singing along a lot, screaming and clapping.

Even if it rained cats and dogs in the morning, except for a little drizzle, there was no rain during the show. Thanks to Micke Syd, who prayed for good weather. Haha.

This time the support act, Uno Svenningsson started 15 minutes earlier again. The more we listen to him, the more lyrics we know, so it gets better and better with singing along. He is a very cool guy and his songs sound great live.

GT also got on stage 15 minutes earlier than usual, so the show started at 21:00 in Malmö too. The setlist remained the same as it was in Helsingborg. Actually, it probably won’t change much during the whole tour. The background LED wall has the screening for the complete show, which I don’t think they have extra elements of. But I’m happy to be surprised if it happens at any of the future gigs. Anyway, the setlist has a great flow.

The show started with an extremely powerful Gyllene Tider igen, then Per welcomed the crowd at the 8th summer tour and 5th comeback tour. He said they had many fab concerts here in Mölleplatsen over the years, but they try to top them tonight.

After they played Juni, juli, augusti and Det hjärta som brinner, PG thanked for the help from the audience in singing along. He said he is also happy that the sun is out. During the „tribute to their favourite Dutch band” talk Anders said he was 12 when he saw Ekseption and they were damn good. Then came Micke Syd’s George Baker Selection moment. He animated the crowd to put their hands in the air and he started playing and singing „una paloma blanca, lalalalala, cha-cha-cha”. Per said this has been like that in the past 40 years. Micke Syd said „and he is still alive”. This time Per skipped the Venus part of Shocking Blue, he just talked about how Skicka ett vykort, älskling. became the translation of Send Me A Postcard.

Gammal kärlek rostar aldrig, a new song from the new album sounded awesome live in Malmö as well. Someone from the crowd shouted „we love it”. Per was happy about it and Micke Syd said „thank you”.

Then came Flickorna på TV2 from the times before Internet, Netflix, Disney Plus and HBO. The next one was Chrissie, hur mår du?, then we went a bit more uptempo with Puls and En sten vid en sjö i en skog.

Before they played Flickan i en Cole Porter-sång, PG picked up his mug of ginger tea saying it’s a secret brew that Micke Syd prepares for him every night. Micke calls it „Lille Syd’s surprise” and he said we would see the effect of it in appr. 22.5 minutes. „Beware, Malmö!” Haha. When Per mentioned Marie, that they started hanging out together when he moved to his first apartment and wrote this coming song, the crowd was cheering for her. One must love these moments at each show. So heart-warming!

Micke N-S brought the world’s sexiest instrument, the ukulele to Per and PG said it’s that instrument Micke Syd plays often in Marbella and Syd said he is making good money with that. It’s a little hint, Per said. One can consider it in Mölleparken. Micke Syd said he would be there in the park tomorrow at 10, so Per should come by. Haha. For Tuffa tider, Micke came to the front and Göran played the melodica.

The band presentation started with the very, very, very talented Dea Norberg and the wonderful Malin-My Wall who plays the accordion and the violin among other instruments. Halmstad’s best boogie guitarist, a sympathetic gentleman, MP was next. Göran was wearing his checkered shirt, so Per said he has good taste and picked his shirt pattern after Per’s checkered guitars. Mr. G said „if I turn around, look who I find here, Anders Herrlin on bass! Sweden’s most handsome guy 1951”. Haha. Last, but not least, a fantastic pop drummer, Micke Syd was introduced. He of course asked the audience for even more cheering, being happy that he could come forward. Micke said Per promised him a lot of things in his weak moments, but „I behave my ass at the gig”. Micke said Per promised if Micke introduces him nicely, he lets Micke drive one of his beautiful cars, out via Hotel Tylösand’s reception. Per was shaking his head constantly while laughing. Haha.

Micke asked the audience if it was OK if he sang a song. In 1981 Per was kind to Micke and he said he wrote a song that he thought Micke should sing. Micke asked Per why he didn’t want to sing it. Ehm… Haha. Micke Syd said who would have thought that he would sing Min tjej och jag in 2023. He said he had never told this before, but there was a woman in his life back then who lived in Möllan. He didn’t want to talk more about it, but he dedicated the song to her. He invited Dea and Malin-My to the front and showed the crowd what to do with their hands during the song. The audience started waving and kept going like this during the whole song.

Kung av sand was a loud sing-along and the uptempo session with Ljudet av ett annat hjärta, Ska vi älska, så ska vi älska till Buddy Holly, as well as the medley of (Kom så ska vi) Leva livet / (Dansar inte lika bra som) Sjömän / Tylö Sun was amazing.

When the gang went off stage, the audience was clapping and screaming, singing a little Sommartider. The guys and girls came back a few minutes later and they played Billy, Det är över nu and Gå & fiska! in the first encore.

The audience started singing Sommartider again and when the band came back on stage and they started playing När vi två blir en the crowd went loud again. I love this moment at each show. It’s like the audience is missing only Sommartider, but then comes NVTBE and they realize that „woah, indeed, that song too!” Fab!

After Sommartider, Per thanked the audience for coming. He wished everyone a fantastic summer. He also said if we read it anywhere that they said they quit, we shouldn’t believe it. The crowd was cheering and PG said „Malmö, we love you”.

När alla vännerna gått hem closed the show with Micke Syd and Dea in the front. After taking a bow, Per picked up his remaining plecs from the mic stand and threw them to the crowd, while Micke Syd threw a couple of his drumsticks.

After the gig we met Sven Lindström, he came to see GT and also liked the show a lot. Åsa was there in Malmö, of course, and she now took videos not only of what was happening on stage, but she also recorded some front row videos. It was fun that the security supervisor repositioned one of the security guys in front of the stage, so that Åsa has a better view for her camera for the stage videos. Haha. Lovely!

A bunch of fans were still talking outside the venue (saying goodbye to each other, because for some of them it was the last show this year), when Micke Syd came out walking towards his hotel, with a banana and a coke in his hands. He stopped to chat and let take pictures with him and he even took a group selfie. The rock star he is. Haha.

Next stop is Linköping on Friday.

Per after the show:

Wow Malmö. Fantastisk kväll på Mölleplatsen. Tack för skönsången och all galen energi! En grym onsdag!

Per Gessle Unplugged Tour – #16 – 4th May 2022 – Malmö

Malmö would have also been a December 2021 show if things hadn’t happened. After one day off, the gang was back on stage last night. Anders Roos was on spot again with all his cameras and MP, who wasn’t present during the past three gigs, rejoined the team, as well as Åsa.

The venue was very interesting, with a lot of rows, you almost couldn’t see the end. Haha. The acoustics weren’t the best. As Christoffer said after the show it had a dry sound. They couldn’t really hear the crowd reactions, but they weren’t alone. It felt like the sing-alongs started in the rows in the back and somehow it took a little while for the sound to get to the front.

Per also recognized the unusual shape of the crowd area. He said it feels like being in a long train. He waved and shouted into the mic to those in the back „hello over there”. The audience shouted „hej” back at him.

The audience was mostly singing along GT songs and all Mazarin tracks. The clapping wasn’t too loud during the songs, but rather after each song. Then it was really intense.

O’boy was again in focus, the kidding with each other goes on and on. E.g. when Per was drinking tea after Tuffa tider, Christoffer said it’s O’boy in the mug and when Micke N-S brought a new mug of tea on stage, Per joked it’s „a new O’boy” and he said it’s yummy when he drank from the mug.

Mr. G’s capo-fixing technique is getting better and better. Last night there was only one time when he was fluffing with the capo for a longer time.

The band presentation started with Christoffer and Per said he is incomparable and he tries to find a new superlative for Chris every night, but it’s not too easy, he feels like he ran out of them. Christoffer helped him out with the word „nice-smelling”. Haha. Regarding Clarence, Per told again that he doesn’t have a microphone, because he talks too much nonsense and sings poorly, but he added that Clarence was the singer in his old band, Overture in the 70’s. Producer father to all Roxette songs as well. Magnus was introduced as a real Scanian, the newcomer with his 18 years of collaboration with PG. The fantastic Helena Josefsson and Magnus felt very much at home in Malmö, that was clearly visible and the audience loved them.

During the past two concerts it was Min hälsning when the crowd realized the show will end now very soon, so they got more active after that. A big part of the crowd stood up before the first encore and then before the second encore everyone was up on their feet. We all sat down for Vid hennes sida, but Sommartider was an immediate standing song and after it, the audience was cheering the band for a long long time. Per thanked for it and for the fantastic evening and he repeated „Malmö” twice in the mic, pointing out that such a crowd reaction can only happen in Malmö. Before starting the last song, Mr. G said „I really hope to see you soon again and I also hope you’ll have a fantastic summer in these crazy times”. Everyone stayed standing for När alla vännerna gått hem. Yet another show that ended with a standing ovation. So wonderful!

Next stop is Karlskrona on 5th May! And be prepared, everyone who is coming, because the show will be recorded for TV, as Per informed after the gig!

Per after the gig:

Wow! Amazing wednesday in Malmö!!! Många vänner i publiken. Tack för en synnerligen trevlig afton. Badabam from PG.

Ännu doftar kärlek – a tribute concert to Marie Fredriksson

Malmö Live Konserthus organized a tribute concert to Marie Fredriksson during the theme year ”100 women, 100 years” in Malmö this weekend. Programs of the theme year aim to strengthen and pay tribute to women in the music industry.

The 90-minute-long tribute concert was performed three times, on 10th, 11th and 12th March. Christoffer Nobin who – besides being the one who came up with the idea – was the conductor and arranger, while Helena Josefsson, Amanda Bergman and Emil Svanängen (Loney Dear) performed the songs together with Malmö Symphony Orchestra. According to hardcore fans who were present, all three singers made the songs their own and the whole event was beautiful. The organizers and performers, all singers and musicians had great respect for Marie and the songs.

The concert was a journey through Marie’s art. Songs on the setlist appeared in four groups, each season got a set. During the songs, Marie’s charcoal drawings and parts of the lyrics were projected on the background.

Gyllene Tider – GT40 – Malmö – 6th July 2019 – #3

Gyllene Tider’s tour continued in Malmö without a day off after the first 2 Halmstad concerts. When there are 3 gigs in a row, it’s usually the third one that is the best and it was the case this time too. The guys and girls topped the 2 shows they did before!

The 3rd concert on the GT40 tour was sold out too so it was tight in the crowd in Mölleplatsen. On top of the audience there were quite some seagulls as visitors. Mainly doing circles above the food court area, but they also had a close eye on the stage and the speakers and they seemed to enjoy their spots. Though they stayed only until the show started. Haha.

In Malmö there was only 1 support act, Chris Kläfford. The weather was windy and freezing cold, but at least it stopped raining at appr. 5 pm and we didn’t have to use our ponchos during the gig at all.

While we were waiting outside, we heard the technicians’ rehearsal and Billy was on. We thought oh, what a nice addition it would be to the setlist, maybe changing the 5th song GT seemed to change so far. And where else to play Billy if not in Malmö? Två enkla biljetter till Malmö central, tack! Hm… this never happened. I wonder why. The guys skipped Vanliga saker and played Chrissie, hur mår du? as the 3rd song instead and then after Det hjärta som brinner, the 5th hit was Flickorna på TV2 this time and as the 6th song they performed Vandrar i ett sommarregn again, just like on the premiere show. It’s lovely that they kept Chrissie, but I missed Vanliga saker badly since that’s one of my Top3 songs from the new album and I would also have been happier if they put Billy on the setlist and kept the 5th song as a changing element from concert to concert. Let’s hope we will still have some surprises on the setlist during the rest of the tour.

Even though the crowd wasn’t the most active except for the first 2-3 rows and they were singing along towards the end of the gig, mostly during the encores, what we saw on stage was the best so far. Regarding the crowds… I always think: do they realize it’s really the last tour now and the last chance to hear these Golden Guys together live??? Per was an energy bomb and Micke Syd as well. MP played the coolest last night and Göran and Anders seem to get more and more into tour mood. Dea and Malin-My were as energetic as on the first 2 shows, twisting and rocking around throughout the whole concert. All 7 people were on a high!

There were some technical hiccups, OK, like Per got to the technicians on the left to tell to fix something and couldn’t get back to his mic on time for the lines he had to sing in Ljudet av ett annat hjärta, but the one line missing was sang by the front of the crowd, so no worries. Also it was fun to hear Per sat in a taxi instead of a Jumbo in Flickan i en Cole Porter-sång. Haha. I don’t mention these hiccups because they are big issues. Probably, it’s only the hardcores who notice them anyway. It’s just that it’s lovely to see Mr. G’s reactions, facial expressions when such things happen, the PERfectionist he is. Never mind. The sound was great and the real powerful performance of the band made it a night to remember.

Compared to the Halmstad gigs, there was less talking between the songs, but it was all fun. When Per first talked to the crowd, after Juni, juli, augusti, he greeted the Malmö crowd on the 40th anniversary tour and told if they want to sing along, they are welcome and if they want to dance, good luck. Then he introduced Chrissie, hur mår du? simply as a song from the past.

The wind was blowing so hard that when Per changed the guitar for Vandrar i ett sommarregn he said it’s so windy we might get to see his six-pack. We all laughed and he laughed too. Who really showed his six-pack was Micke Syd though. Only for some seconds, but when he changed his jacket before Låt denna trumslagarpojke sjunga! he was joking with it.

While everyone got prepared for Tuffa tider, the lyrics to Låt denna trumslagarpojke sjunga! were fixed on different parts of the stage in the front for Micke Syd. Per was talking to the audience and said when he was sitting in his childhood room and listened to Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, he never imagined he once would be standing in front of 13000 people and play the ukulele. He said life is a bitch. Haha. But he confirmed he loves the ukulele and George Formby.

Micke Syd talked a bit longer before Låt denna trumslagarpojke sjunga! in Malmö. He mentioned that Mölleplatsen is an important place for him, because in 1996 there was a girl who came to see them there. Her name was Helena Eriksson. In 2004 he proposed to Helena on stage in Örjans vall, Halmstad and they have been married now for 14 years. This is how he introduced the new song written for him and that he wouldn’t sing Min tjej och jag. After the song Per said it’s hard to top, but not impossible. Haha.

Yesterday was the first time we got to see that besides Per’s customized guitar picks there are custom-made ones for MP too. Watch out for it, because MP is not the guy who is throwing too many picks to the crowd.

After seeing the first 3 shows, my Top 4 highlight songs are Flickorna på TV2, Det kändes inte som maj, Ljudet av ett annat hjärta and När vi två blir en. These are all perfectly arranged and Det kändes inte som maj as a new song fits so well in the GT catalogue. The best choice from the new album to be played live.

Now everyone can have a few days of rest and the band is back on the road on Wednesday, in Helsingborg. Yet another sold-out show!

Gyllene Tider after the concert:

Gig #3! Mölleplatsen, Malmö. Wow, heja Skåne! Grymt gig i blåsten. Vi hade hur kul som helst. Tack för all sång o dans o tjoho bland vindarna. Nu tar vi paus i några dagar. Next stop: Helsingborg. Love from the Golden boys + girls.

Per Gessle – En vacker kväll in Malmö, Sweden – 2nd August 2017 – #14

Some fans who were there in Borgholm sat into their cars right after the show and drove to Malmö, some others stayed in Borgholm for the night and travelled to the next tour stop only the next day. For the 14th show, the queue was not as long as in Borgholm, but still a lot of hardcores showed up, due to Malmö being an easily accessible city for most.

The security team was the least prepared at Mölleplatsen. They literally started the preparations only 10 minutes before the gates opened. This means the supervisor showed the controlling people how the ticket looks and where they should stand. Also the dustbins got to the gates only 5 minutes before we all could enter and the scanners were given out to the controllers only 1 minute before 6 pm. No surprise the whole insläpp was a mess in the end. People who were queueing all day got let in after those people who arrived only half an hour before the gates opened and when you were queueing in the ”wrong” line inside, because that was for the guestlist (which wasn’t marked anywhere at all) they sent you back to the end of another queue. The most incompetent security team in Sweden ever. Not only at the entrance, also inside the venue. Whatever. This should be our biggest problem in life. 😉

When we were already inside, I looked around and checked the merch stand. I was surprised, because I saw a tee with the tour dates on it and I remembered there was none. I went to the stand and asked the girl who worked there if it was new. She said she got them only that day. And that’s the only T-shirt with the dates on. A pity that it’s out only now, almost at the end of the tour. Next time it’s useful to print the dates on ALL tour tees already at the beginning. Real tour tees always have the dates on. But still, better late than never.

Strandels and Good Harvest were the support acts and they get more and more cheering from the audience day by day. And they like it. The more we hear their songs, the more we like them. Andreas Dahlbäck was very busy during GH’s performance. He filmed them with his phone from the left side of the stage and later he went to the other side with 2 of his drumskins and was writing something on them. So we were sure he would again throw them to the crowd at the end of the show. And he did. We would love to see what’s written on those drumskins, so in case you are the one who caught them, just send us a message with a pic on Facebook.

What was very lovely to see in Malmö is that some hardcore fans, not only from Sweden, brought their kids to the gig to show them what it’s all about. Now that there is no age limit, it was a great chance to bring the whole family together and enjoy the concert this way. Kids were also in the front and they even caught guitar picks from Per. Haha. They got enthusiastic. I’m sure it wasn’t their last PG concert.

The setlist was the very same as in Borgholm. We expected more songs or a bit of a change at least. Tittar på dej när du dansar maybe? Haha, I know I know… Well, PG and the band were in top shape. The crowd could have been more active. They were singing along, but not more than that – I mean from row 3-4 or so. They rocked out the most to Ljudet av ett annat hjärta. What is strange that in other places Spegelboll keeps up the jumping and dancing party mood of the audience, but not in Malmö. OK, the front row rocked to Spegelboll as well. Of course. We love those 3 party songs, Ljudet av ett annat hjärta, Spegelboll and Gå & fiska! coming after one another.

During Det hjärta som brinner Mr. G was rocking so hard that his mic turned down, but both technicians, Peter Fredriksson and Micke N-S were rushing to it from the 2 sides of the stage and set it back to normal. It was funny to see.

It Must Have Been Love sounded beautiful in both Per’s and Helena’s performance. Mr. G even posted a video of it on Roxette’s Facebook page:

Malmö last nite: Truly amazing version of IT MUST HAVE BEEN LOVE. You should have been there! Helena, Malin-My and this group of ppl knock me out every night!!! Probably the best band I’ve ever played with. Lots of love from P.

Besides some very nice comments, there were some related to Helena is not Marie and that Marie can’t be replaced, etc. That is not the case. Can’t be said enough times ”Roxette is Marie and Per”. This is what Per thinks too, so no need to worry about anything. And really no need to be rude with a most lovely person.

Sadly, probably because of reading those comments, Helena felt she had to justify herself and shared the video too:

Here is a clip from the other day ! The Malmö audience was wonderful, thank you. When I sing the song I think about Marie. Who sang the song before me. But now her health stops her from doing it. When I was 9 I got my first album of her and she has been a great inspiration to me, as a solo artist and a fantastic composer. “Sjunde vågen” is my favourite song of hers. And “Sparvöga”. I wish she could have sung this song of Per many more times. Now Per wanted to perform it and he asked me to help him out. Per is an incredible composer, constantly transforming. He’s a real artist to me. The least I can do is put all my prescence into the song, and sing it my own way. That is what Marie would have done.

So lovely words! What Helena does with IMHBL and how she makes it her own is exceptional. It makes no sense to compare one singer to another, Marie to Helena and vice versa. Marie is Marie and Helena is Helena. Helena is a unique Artist with a voice of an angel. The ovation she gets each night (not only after IMHBL, but several other songs – Första pris, Tycker om…, Varmt igen) is a great confirmation of what she is doing is just adorable and perfect. And she is not only an amazing artist, but also a wonderful person!

Per couldn’t help himself, he posted the song again some hours later:

Have to post this one again. So proud to be playing with these guys and dolls! /P.

You must love how he is handling such situations.

During Kung av sand it started raining, but fortunately, only for 2-3 songs. Åsa was there in Malmö, filmed a lot (watch the vids on YouTube, GessleHome Vids!) and when the rain came she also went backstage to get a poncho for herself and came back to the front to take vids of the party songs.

When Per presented the band with the dating site story and he mentioned Helena is from Skåne, the county where Malmö is situated as well, the crowd was cheering her even louder. Then he introduced Malin-My and said she is also almost from Skåne, she is from Holmsund. Up North. Magnus is the other band member from Skåne. Actually, from Malmö. So he also got a louder cheering. Per said without Magnus there is no breakfast. Mister Magnus said he knows Clarence can say something in real Malmö style. And he asked the audience to be silent and Clarence said something that sounded very strange and probably only the Swedes or at least those from Skåne could get what it meant. Then Per introduced Ola, almost from Skåne as well, from Luleå and then Mr. G presented the guy in black gloves, Andreas. After all this, Chris went on with his psychedelic När vi två blir en intro to The Look. Not only the intro, but the ending of The Look was psychedlic again and the way Helena is acting with the crowd during the song since some concerts ago, she just rulez!

Sommartider got a similar drum intro as in Borgholm. It was fantastic in Malmö too, Andreas went totally wild on this. Adrenaline on top!

Per after the show:

MALMÖ Wow! Vilken vacker kväll!! Grym och stor publik, taggat band, bara lite regn (rätt snyggt i Kung av sand!) och good vibes överallt. Tack för att ni kom förbi och sjöng och delade minnen med oss!!! Syns igen! /P.
