Get swept back to the euphoria of 1991, when Roxette steered the pop ship straight into Sydney Harbour on their Join the Joyride! World Tour. Riffs bigger than the Great Barrier Reef laid the foundation for the Swedish duo’s conquest of charts around the globe – with four Billboard number ones that remain in a league of their own. Pop documentary king Henrik Burman (Yung Lean: In My Head, Avicii – I’m Tim) captures Gessle and Fredriksson’s soaring power ballads with an extraordinary feel for every pulsating detail. Get closer than ever to an iconic head of hair in motion, as a white Rickenbacker 360 and two voices in perfect harmony send the crowd into ecstasy.
The world premiere of Roxette – Live in Sydney 1991 will take place at the Stockholm Film Festival on November 17 at Bio Skandia. Before the screening, Per Gessle and director Henrik Burman will join a conversation about the film and the story behind this iconic moment in Roxette’s history.

At the end of 1991, Roxette found themselves in the midst of the great Join the Joyride World Tour, playing at large arenas across Australia, including in Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. Now, SVT has gained access to extensive and rarely seen raw footage from three of the concerts.
And it is no small treasure trove. The material comprises around 85 hours of film spread across approximately 100 reels, recorded on both 35 mm and 16 mm, together with multi-channel sound. After restoration and re-editing, it has become a brand new concert film where we get to experience Roxette live right in the midst of their international heyday.
Those familiar with Roxette’s history may recall that the concert at Sydney Entertainment Centre on 13 December 1991 was recorded back then, and that parts of the material were released on the video Live-Ism in 1992. The new concert film, however, draws on considerably more material from three concerts – and offers a unique chance to relive Roxette on stage during one of the band’s most successful periods.
The concert film is directed by Henrik Burman at SVT and produced by PINE, with Marion Jernråda as executive producer and project manager.
Besides the cinema version, a TV version will also be produced, premiering on SVT on November 19. It will be approximately one hour long and will feature around 14–15 songs. The cinema version is 110 minutes long.
