Zowie to support Roxette in New Zealand

Voxy.co.nz informs that Auckland based synth-pop diva Zowie will support Roxette for their concert at Auckland’s Vector Arena on Saturday 11 February 2012, replacing Dragon who have cancelled due to scheduling issues.

Zowie’s debut single Broken Machine went Gold in NZ and her catchy electro chants have garnered much international attention. MTV Iggy (www.mtviggy.com) named Zowie as one of the Top 10 Best New Bands in the World, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton invited her to play at his One Night in Austin SXSW (one of the largest music festivals in the USA) after-party and the New York Times named her as the First Day Pick of the CMJ Music Marathon.

The single Smash It, released shortly after Zowie’s 11 date Australasian Tour as the opening act for Katy Perry, featured in the hit US TV show Pretty Little Liars. With just a handful of singles and a Bettie-Page-as-a-sexy-robot look, Zowie is poised to challenge the Ke$has and Gagas of this world.

“(Zowie) sounds like a mix of Karen O, Amanda Blank and Prince. She’s a bit of glam pop and a bit of dirty grunge. Check out the self-described ‘pixie’ from New Zealand… and discover why she’s been recruited to support the likes of Mark Ronson and Katy Perry on tour” – NME

Roxette coming to Auckland

Roxette came to New Zealand once, back in the late 80s, for a promotional visit at the height of their success following songs like The Look, Dressed for Success and ballad Listen to Your Heart from 1988 album Look Sharp!.

“We landed in a helicopter in a school somewhere – and there were lots of kids in school uniforms,” remembers Gessle during a recent interview with TimeOut. “Everyone was, like, crazy, like something from a Beatles movie or something,” he laughs.

Because that visit was only for promotional purposes they never got to play, and he says they are looking forward to coming back and doing a proper show as part of the world tour for latest album, Charm School.

Roxette will play their very first concert in New Zealand’s Vector Arena on February 11.
Tickets to the show go on sale on September 5 at Ticketmaster.co.nz
