Roxette are lending their voices to a radio campaign in support of Childhood’s global commitment to prevent abuse and exploitation of children. The 30-second spots are airing across numerous SIRIUS XM radio channels. The campaign will be launched today in New York City by Queen Silvia of Sweden.
Among the participants: Music icons Frida and Bjorn Ulvaeus from ABBA, and Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson from Roxette; award-winning director Lasse Hallstrom; internationally acclaimed actresses Lena Olin and Isabella Rossellini; Henrik Lundqvist, All-Star goalie for the NHL’s New York Rangers; world-renowned chef Marcus Samuelsson, chef/owner of New York City’s forthcoming Red Rooster Harlem and winner of Top Chef Masters and professional golfer Jesper Parnevik.
“World Childhood Foundation” is dedicated to serving the most vulnerable children worldwide, especially those who are victims of sexual abuse and exploitation. Special attention is given to girls and young mothers. Since its inception, Childhood has granted almost 50 million US dollars to more than 500 projects worldwide, and currently supports over 115 programs in 16 countries including Belarus, Brazil, Estonia, Cambodia, China, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Russia, Sweden, South Africa, Thailand, Germany, Ukraine and the United States.

Interesting to see Per and Marie get involved in something like this, I remember some years back they supported Amnesty International – I guess they perhaps still do. There is no doubt that childhood abuse is a growing and worrying concern worldwide and often happens behind closed doors where it cannot be seen and where children don’t have someone safe to speak to. I am all for organisations like this if the money raised goes to worthwhile causes and child protection.

I listened to SIRIUS XM all day almost every day, but haven’t heard anything about this. Good to know that Roxette doing this though.

It’s mostly Per though. I have the feeling that for Marie’s part they have just used a sample of an old ID recording with the classic “Hi this is Marie, this is Per and we are Roxette”.
Thanks for this. I still haven’t heard this on Sirius/XM at all. I think Marie’s part is new though, her voice sounded deeper than the one in their old ID.
Thank you! You could be right, but I tend to believe also Marie’s part is new. Sounds somehow different to od IDs. A little bit more Marie wouldn’t have hurt though. 😉
