  1. I must admit that for a great part it sounds really fresh, sparkling and up-to-date!
It has to grow a bit more on me, because on the other hand I think it maybe sounds a very little bit too much demo-like…

  2. I love the intro, break and change of harmony in the end of the chorus! Miss some other details like the background choir (too low here) and guitars. Nice to have a good 2nd version, both should be on the single CD/bundle! 🙂

  3. Some thought of mine:

The good thing is, they fixed Marie’s vocal track in it’s hights. I doesn’t hurt anymore when played loud.

When I first heard the snippet I thought I will like this version but after listening to the whole song a couple of times today, I think the song lost it’s soul. I really loved Per’s backing vocals which are more ore less gone now. I personally doubt it was a decision of P&M to pimp the song.

I played along with my accoustic guitar and it made this version sound a bit better, by the way 😉

But that’s just my personal taste. I never liked “computer music”/Europop à la DJ Bobo and Modern Talking. This new version is a mix between Europop and the way, “German Schlager” is produced these days (Andrea Berg, Helene Fischer). Really not my cup of tea. I need drums and guitars 😉

I would love, if they released all audio-tracks of SpeakToMe via iTunes so everybody could remix the song. Would be a nice competition too, I guess.

  4. Now I heard the whole song. It’s just terrible how it sounds now! sorry, normally I stay behind with critics, but this time I have to tell. Real instruments gone, voices pitched, absolutly no athmosphere left. It’s like a remix you listen to one time and then forget about it because the original is far better. Hope it doesn’t get a release in Germany.

  6. If this song/version ever gets released in Germany/Austria I already can see myself explaining to my friends everytime they ask me “Do you like the new song of Roxette” by saying: “No, but it’s not from Roxette, some bloke called “Bassflow” used their voices in HIS “song” (a.k.a. “remake”) 🙂 … however Roxette has a quite similar song, but far better. Check it out on their new record on position 4!”

    😉

  7. Speak To Me was and is my favorit track and I do belive that the original version has enough potential to be a single without any electronic remake. I´d like to buy it as an maxi CD-as single with the original track as leading version and the remakes as additional tracks. I hope they will realese an normal version of it in the whole world. It would be not good if roxette wouldn`t use the magic of that song elsewhere than in the anounced countries… I hope also for an rock version played live as additional song on the tour. -At least in the 2nd German Austrian Tour in Okt-Nov.

  8. I just love it. A lot more powerful than the original version, specially during the chorus. Indeed, the normal version was one of the CS tracks that I got tired of first, I don’t think it could be a hit in its original shape. Besides that, the “real instruments vs synthesizers/computers” debate is old and worn. Roxette always made a heavy use of computer generated sounds, so I don’t see a problem there (if you don’t like synths, I wonder how you managed to like Roxette!)

To round it up, I am glad their remixed adventures are back in the right track. The “Radio” mixes were truly awful, just a bunch of pure noise labelled as a Roxette song. I am relieved now!

  9. The album version is so superior. This could just slip into all the other eurotrash that’s out there. It’s only saved by Marie’s vocals….just.

The album verson is ROXETTE and why I love their sound, so it confuses me as to why they say they wanted to make a Roxette sounding album (and do), then have someone take out all that is Roxette from the song and release it as a single?

Come on Roxette – have faith in your album tracks…they’re bloody good!!!!!!!!!!

  10. @RealSugar LOL!!! Funny analogy : )

I actually love it! I love both versions but I think this version sounds more today… Feels like it could be a hit! Also I like how the chorus is repeated at the end one can never get enough Marie : P

  11. Marie’s vocals really save this version. I like the song and this is not totally hopeless version but it’s not very good either. I like the Heidi Montag analogy – this version has lost something unique that was present in the original. The best part is the dramatic end. <3 Marie here (and always).

  12. There’s truth to the Heidi Montag analogy! It’s just that the original body is lost after her transformation, the original song is not! 😛

  13. Well I simply adore Speak to me on Charm School!!! 🙂

I also like this song in a more upbeat manner. There are a lot of radio stations (like 5fm in South Africa) that will only play this version of the song and no other track from Roxette from the CS album. It’s weird but some radio stations believe that this type of music will ‘win’ over more listeners because it sounds similar to something that Black Eyed Peas would do currently.

Roxette did use a lot of synthesizers on the other albums no denying that! If it works for a song why not???!!

I do like this version yes, but I think I might get very bored with it after the 20th listen. I NEED TO FEEL the emotion in Roxette’s songs and Marie’s glorious voice. That’s why I still have this obsession with them after sooo many years!!

  14. Does anybody know where to buy the Speak to me single -CD by now? I did not find any shop who sell this CD. If someone knows please share the info.
