Gyllene Tider – GT40 – Piteå – 24th July 2019 – #9

After the gig in Lysekil it would have been Ronneby’s turn, but as everyone knows, Per got sick and Ronneby and Kalmar have been postponed to later dates. Thank God those gigs were not cancelled, so we can still see GT in those 2 towns.

We’d been worried about Mr. G since it barely happened during his 40-year-long career that he had to cancel shows. So it must have been more serious than just man flu. We were expecting news any minute to see if the planned gig in Piteå would happen. Fortunately, 2 days before the show Per felt himself strong enough to share the info he felt much better and he confirmed the gig on Wednesday would happen. More than that, on Tuesday we got the news that the gang even decided for a last show in Halmstad on August 10th, which is awesome.

The venue in Piteå I knew from Per’s 2017 tour. Pite Havsbad is a beautiful place at the seaside. Many arrived by boats and watched the concert from the sea. This time Pite Havsbad beat their record, because now there were 13491 people in the audience. The latest record was from 2006 and then there were appr. 11600 people for a concert (John Fogerty). Not bad! Per mentioned that the last time GT played Piteå was August 1981, but then they performed at another venue.

There was no new song added to the setlist and on top of it, it was 2 songs less vs. the usual one. The guys and girls skipped Tylö Sun and the first song in the first encore. For this first gig after Per’s sickness I can understand that. One could hear that he is still not 100% healthy. He kept his voice low and saved it also on those songs on which otherwise there is more power in his singing. He didn’t save energy on his moves though. The whole band supported him very well and the crowd was very active. They were singing along loudly and clapping all the time. Before the encores they were singing mainly Sommartider, but tried out other loud vocals too. Per changed a few lines in 2-3 songs to nana lala singing, which was cute, but found the correct lines quickly. As I heard, this was the first crowd that knew most of the lyrics to Låt denna trumslagarpojke sjunga! Nice. The new songs worked very cool on this audience.

Now a day off and tomorrow the gang plays at another beautiful venue, Dalhalla!

Gyllene Tider – GT40 – Lysekil – 17th July 2019 – #8

Gosh! Was it already the 8th show??? Pinneviken in Lysekil is a beautiful venue, surrounded by Swedish west coast rocks. Many decided to watch the concert from the side, so after entering, they climbed up the rocks and sat down there.

The security teams are usually very nice and kind in Sweden and we only met great people in the security teams on tour so far, but the guys in Lysekil were extra kind. A handful of fans had been waiting for long long hours before the concert and the weather was hot (fortunately, sunny all day), so the security team surprised them with some ice creams. How cool is that!

Last night’s setlist was the very same as in Uppsala, which is a bit sad, because so far there was no concert that had the same setlist as another gig. Those who go to several shows love to have at least one song changed on the setlist. Where is Vill ha ett svar, for example? Just to mention one song that we already heard on a soundcheck, but not yet on concert. Or why not adding Fån telefon or Leka med elden one day? The more concerts I see and the more familiar the setlist is, I feel like the gigs are ending in a blink after the show had started. Haha. Still, I’m very happy that the guys and girls keep the setlist 23 songs long.

The crowd in Lysekil was fab! They were singing along to all songs and clapping a lot too. They were also loud before the two encores, but BoJo came up on stage twice, stood next to the technicians and animated us to get even louder. We acted accordingly. Haha.

The band sounded fab, however, I assume there was some technical issue during the whole show, because Per was running to the left-side technicians quite a lot of times. When he started with the intro talk to Tuffa Tider, he asked the camera guy to film his ukulele, because it’s beautiful. So, probably, the shows are recorded indeed and it’s not just recordings for the screens.

Micke Syd’s intro talk to Låt denna trumslagarpojke sjunga! was very funny this time too. His wife, Helena was also there and Micke was singing to her. So lovely! Åsa was there too, singing along while filming.

Anders Roos joined GT in Lysekil too, to take some more pics. Some more thousands of pics, haha. Good for us!

If I have to point at one song that worked the best in Lysekil, I would say it was När vi två blir en, but actually, the energy level reached its top during those 5 uptempo songs from En sten vid en sjö i en skog. Our Sommartider sing-along started out as a mess, but the crowd found the real melodies and matching lyrics and then it became normal.

Per threw tons of his picks last night and also at the end of the show it was him, who took his plecs off the mic stand and threw them to the crowd. MP also got to the front at the end of the gig and threw his picks too.

Now one day off and on Friday we see GT again in Ronneby!

Gyllene Tider – GT40 – Uppsala – 15th July 2019 – #7

After a day off, Gyllene Tider feat. Dea Norberg and Malin-My Wall visited Uppsala for yet another sold-out show. The venue was the city’s botanical garden, just like 2 years ago on Per’s tour, where Micke Syd appeared as a guest star during Sommartider. Last night’s gig was so sold out (8-9000 people) that some of those who couldn’t get in watched it from the Castle’s roof, for example. Haha.

After skipping 2 concerts, Anders Roos was back to take pictures of the Uppsala gig and Åsa was back too and filmed a lot, as well as Micke Syd’s wife, Helena.

The guys and girls on stage put 110% energy into the show. All of them were top! Duracell bunny Per was bouncing and stomping during the whole concert. MP was a pure rocker. Anders got to the left side of the stage already at the beginning, so now he moves a bit more and he is smiling much more. Göran Farfisa Guru Fritzon was also on a high, both when he played his Farfisa and the melodika on Tuffa Tider. Also, at the end of the show he came more to the front to thank the crowd. He was cool! Micke Syd also had his rock ’n’ roll moments behind his drum and then enjoyed very much being in the limelight on his trummis song. His intro talk was much fun last night too, starting with not being able to button up his jacket. He said his wife, Helena was watching him laughing and Per’s wife, Åsa was laughing at him too. Micke Syd also managed to make everyone snap their fingers for the song’s intro. It looked and sounded nice. The ladies were fantastic again. Their backing vocals, as well as Malin-My’s playing all the instruments and the girls’ dancing choreographies are just excellent.

Among the changing songs, last night it was Vandrar i ett sommarregn that was played and Det kändes inte som maj got back to the setlist. Woohoo! Instead of Skrot och korn, Billy got back too. Per introduced Vandrar i ett sommarregn as a song they all liked from Puls and they celebrated it with never playing it live. Until this tour.

The crowd was very loud, they were singing along all songs and it was great to hear. The most active they were on Flickorna på TV2, on the intro to Det kändes inte som maj and Sommartider.

The band presentation had a little twist in Uppsala. Per was kidding Malin-My so hard that she is from Hong Kong that he accidentally skipped MP. He already wanted to be joking to ask who else is left (thinking of Micke Syd), but then Anders pointed at MP and then it dawned on PG that he forgot to introduce him, the boogie king.

Another twist came from the audience’s side. Namely, someone wanted to throw a pink bra on stage during Tylö Sun. Unfortunately, it didn’t reach the stage, fell to the ground in front of it. Well, I was at a Backstreet Boys concert not too long ago and there were at least 10 bras flying during the whole concert and even there the guys couldn’t really do anything with the flying lingerie. I wonder what Per’s reaction would have been to it if it reached him… Or MP’s, because actually, the bra was flying into his direction. Haha.

The breaks before the encores were very loud, the crowd filled them with noise. It was lovely to hear them wanting GT back on stage so badly. When the guys and girls came back for the 2nd encore, Per asked the audience if they wanted more. We shouted yes and he said well, there is no other gig until Wednesday, so it’s OK. Haha.

The concert ended with När alla vännerna gått hem as usual and tons of people switched on the light on their mobiles. It looked very nice. After the last song, the guys and girls waved goodbye and took a bow and then Micke Syd took the remaining picks off Per’s mic stand and threw them to his wife to distribute them. Hm. Well… not the best way for a fan to get hold of a PG guitar pick. Mr. G should distribute his plecs himself. So next time hopefully he throws many more plectrums to the crowd during the show. Last night he wasn’t in a real pick-throwing mood. So many stayed on the mic stand that Micke N-S didn’t even have to add new ones for the encores. So maybe next time.

Now Tuesday off and Wednesday is concert day again. Next stop: Lysekil!

Gyllene Tider – GT40 – Linköping – 13th July 2019 – #6

After the best-so-far gig in Skövde, Gyllene Tider continued their farewell tour in Linköping without a day off. There was great open-air concert weather in town, so we couldn’t complain.

The guys and girls did a live soundcheck at appr. 16:30 and those who had been waiting outside the venue could be happy to hear 2 songs which were not yet present on the setlist. Setting high hopes for the evening setlist, they rehearsed Marie i växeln and Vill ha ett svar. Only one of the 2 songs made it to the setlist in the end and it wasn’t Vill ha ett svar. But if you remember, the first time Billy was on at the soundcheck, they didn’t play it until 1 gig later. So let’s see if Vill ha ett svar appears in Uppsala maybe. One of the changes in the setlist vs. Skövde was that the guys skipped Vandrar i ett sommarregn and played Chrissie, hur mår du? instead. Then after Sjömän they put Marie i växeln on the list, which means they skipped Det kändes inte som maj. Big mistake! I mean it was nice to hear Marie i växeln live again, but Det kändes inte som maj, would be a must to perform. Even if many people still don’t know it, since it’s from the last album, it somehow involved people with the clapping and put them into party mood. We definitely want that song back! Fortunately, they played Skrot och korn again, as the first song in the first encore. By the way, after Marie i växeln Per said they will now slow down a bit. He is not 59 anymore. Haha.

Crowds in Linköping are usually loud and those 12000 people being there last night didn’t disappoint. They were singing along almost each song and it sounded cool. There were several active groups in the audience: a part of them were clapping, another part of them were doing different choreographies with their hands up in the air. Some shouted ”Gessle! Gessle!” everytime Per talked between the songs. Also before both encores they were whistling, singing Sommartider, shouting ”en gång till!” and clapping. It was great!

On stage, the most energetic were Per, Dea and Malin-My. The rest of the gang were doing their magic to their own instruments. Micke Syd’s intro talk to Låt denna trumslagarpojke sjunga! is getting more and more fun by every gig and the crowds love his singing on this one. And now the lyrics don’t seem to cause any problem anymore.

There is one sing along part on each concert that somehow doesn’t want to work properly with the crowd and it’s in Det är över nu. No matter how loud audiences GT has, this part is always so silent and it shouldn’t be. I think the issue is that the guys expect people to sing along without Per starting that part. He is just miming and even if everyone knows this song, I think it’s just not enough. Per should start it just like in all the other sing-along hits on the setlist (e.g. Flickan i en Cole Porter-sång, När vi två blir en or Sommartider). Now it’s only the first few rows and some other in the crowd are doing their ”job”, but it would sound much better if the whole audience was singing it.

Anyway, it was yet another fab summer night at yet another sold-out GT show! By getting back to our hotel, there was an ”after party” with Gyllene Tider music mixed from all of their albums. Nice!

Next stop is Uppsala after a well-deserved day off.

Gyllene Tider – GT40 – Skövde – 12th July 2019 – #5

The guys and girls had a day off after Helsingborg and the tour continued last night in Skövde. On our way to the venue, entering the town, we saw a huge digital screen that promoted different concerts, Gyllene Tider among them.

It might sound stupid that I always mention what the weather was like before or during the show, but Swedish summer can really have an effect on the concert experience. While we were waiting outside the venue, it was sunny and the rain visited us for only a few minutes every now and then. We hoped for no rain during the concert, but unfortunately, the weather forecast turned out to be correct…

While we were still outside, waiting for the gates to open, we saw the band arriving to the venue and they entered the catering area just next to us, where we were lining up. Nice ending to our waiting time. Haha.

The setting was a bit similar to Helsingborg, except for the fact that in Skövde the side screens were used again. On one of them, a tiny little part of the lighting didn’t work, so a technician came and like Spiderman, climbed up on the back of the side panel and fixed it. He got an applause from the audience.

A big part of the entering people went to the venue early to have the best picnic spots. This happens only in Sweden. Haha. Already during Chris Kläfford, the support act, it was clear to me that this crowd is loud and very much into having a great night out. And they proved I was right. What an awesome, loud sing-along audience it was! They were singing along all songs and jumping and dancing and clapping and all!

The band was in absolute top shape! Probably, the crowd’s great mood added much to the guys’ and girls’ mood too. They were smiling constantly and rocked Skövde! MP was even more active than on the previous shows. He even threw many guitar picks of his to the crowd. Regarding Anders I can say he arrived to the GT40 tour. I think he needed these few first gigs to really get into it all. Last night he was even coming to the front part of the stage and smiled a lot and looked to the crowd too. Now only Göran needs to be a bit more at ease and bounce a bit more behind his Farfisa. Micke Syd was on a high when he could get closer to the crowd on his song and his drumming ruled on all the other songs. Per interacted even more with MP and Malin-My on stage, as well as his technician, Micke N-S and he was bouncing around all the time. Dea and Malin-My changed their stage clothes to black ones. They looked even better than in the red and pink clothes before. And they were of course dancing a lot and doing the backing vocals, animating the crowd, plus Malin-My played a number of instruments too, as usual.

The setlist changed a bit vs. Helsingborg, which means the Golden Guys skipped Chrissie, hur mår du? and Billy, and they played 22 songs this way. Actually, they planned to play 23 songs according to MP’s setlist and in the first encore the first song would have been Skrot och korn again, not Billy. It was most probably cut due to the extremely heavy rain. It started with showers at Vandrar i ett sommarregn (Weather God took the title too seriously) then stopped and started again, until after Låt denna trumslagarpojke sjunga! when the ponchos had to be taken on. Well… it didn’t matter. Despite wearing a poncho we still got soaking wet, it was such a heavy rain. But the crowd was full of really enthusiastic people and one could see how the band appreciated our perseverance. It was lovely! During the closing song, Micke Syd chose to be sitting on the edge of the upper stage, because the rain didn’t let him come down, closer to us.

According to Micke Syd, the gig was sold out and according to Per there were appr. 10,000 people in the audience.

This was the first show where Anders Roos wasn’t there to take photos. Åsa also didn’t travel to Skövde with the gang, but Micke Syd’s wife, Helena was there.

It’s usually the actual gig that seems to be the best so far and I dare to say that it was a fantastic concert, really the best so far. If I want to quote Per, it’s hard to top, but not impossible. Next stop is Linköping, so let’s see what happens there!
