Roxette XXX Tour – Ostrava, Czech Republic (CEZ Arena) – June 15 – #38

Last night it wasn’t the first time Roxette visited the Czech Republic on this tour and it wasn’t the first time the scanners didn’t work properly in this country. It seems Czech arenas should either check their scanners well before the gigs start or look for a new scanner supplier. Luckily, in the end everyone who was waiting outside the venue for a very long time could reach the well-deserved front row spots at CEZ Arena.

After not too many familiar faces in Trondheim, many longtime Roxers got back on the road and went to see Roxette in Ostrava. The gig started at 10 pm, which is not quite usual. Normally, the support act starts at 8 pm and Roxette hits the stage at around 9-9.30 pm. One could think the later they start, the shorter the setlist gets, but last night they performed their ”usual” setlist with 17 songs.

Marie, Per and the band enjoyed themselves very much, had huge smiles on their faces during the whole gig and they sounded awesome. For sure they were happy to see an active and loud crowd in front of them and that gave the band even more energy. Per was so much on a high he couldn’t stop jumping and running back and forth and left to right on stage all night. Those who had seated tickets stood up and danced during several songs and the whole arena was standing during The Look. Well done! The local tune Chris learned to play not long before the show while sipping ”apple juice” got a great crowd reaction, too.

Per’s comment after the show:

OSTRAVA UPDATE: Oh yea! We were here in Ostrava four years ago trying to get this band going again after a very long silence and certainly had a blast. Tonight was just the same! Thanx everyone for showing up, singing along and making us sweat!!!! Love it here. See y’all next time! Cheers, P.

Next gig is on Wednesday (17th June) in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Roxette XXX Tour – Trondheim, Norway (Sverresborg Arena) – June 13 – #37

Tickets for Roxette’s 37th show of the XXX tour went on sale mid November last year. They were selling like hot cakes and the concert was sold out already on 1st January. So tonight, after having an almost 2-week-long tour break, the band performed in front of 10,000 people who had a picturesque view.

It was quite cold, so Marie dressed up warmly. She even had a pair of cool-looking gloves on. There were 2 heaters on stage for her and they looked more modern and probably worked better than the one in Denmark 3 weeks ago. Marie had an ear-to-ear smile on her face during the whole show, tapping the rhythm on her legs. She enjoyed the gig to the full.

Despite the fact that it was an open-air show and you would have expected Per following the routine of wearing his white outfit, he left it at home and was wearing some new black shirts instead. They have the same design with PER, ROX, XXX on the sleeve as the white set. PG was very energetic and he was even acting a bit with the camera when Åsa was filming him.

The whole band was in top shape and they did their best to animate the crowd. There were hardly any familiar faces in the front row or better said, in the whole crowd at all. People in the audience didn’t really realize they wouldn’t be freezing if they were jumping more, but they proved they knew the lyrics to all the hits and used their hands for clapping along.

Since Swedish is very similar to Norwegian and vice versa, both Marie and Per used Swedish when they were talking to the crowd.

Per’s comment after the show:

TRONDHEIM UPDATE: Truly fab sold out (10.000+) gig tonite in this beautiful town. Band in top shape after two weeks of moonshining and jailbreaks and Miss Effe blessed us with her golden voice for 90 adorable minutes. All set in this wonderful venue under the (almost) midnight sun (yea, I know – it’s not really the m.s. but it’s so light outside it’s hard to imagine unless you’re here…). Thanx everyone for showing up. Can we come back, please? /P.

Next gig is on Monday (15th June) in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

Roxette filmed a very cool thing at X-Level Studios

As Per posted about it some days ago, Roxette was on a secret mission at X-Level Studios. However, the studios got a new name, it’s the earlier EMI studios in Skärmarbrink, Stockholm where Roxette, Per, Marie and GT worked a lot over the years. The legendary studio complex has been regarded as Sweden’s top music studio for 50 years and been a prime location for some of the biggest music names in the world.

You could see the pic attached to this article earlier as it was spreading on Instagram and now X-Level Studios shared it on their FB page stating:

Roxette (who recorded most of their albums here) were back to film a very cool thing that is coming out soon.

Roxette Cafe did a little investigation and found out that Legends Of Rock did a live recording at X-Level Studios, kind of an exclusive show for 50 guests. They filmed it together with interviews with the band members and planned to release it as a CD/DVD package. This is said to be the first concert in a planned long series by X-Level.

Can the stuff recorded by / for Roxette be related to that series? It will turn out soon. Again this word ”soon”. Well, Legends Of Rock recorded their thing in April 2013 and at the end of 2014 they were still only planning to release it. Maybe it’s already out since then.

So this ”soon” seems to be Per’s soon again. But since there is a new single release soon, then a new album release soon, then (or even earlier) the Roxette Diaries movie release soon, we can just put this X-Level Studios recording on our list of soons. It’s a pretty eXXXciting list anyway, isn’t it?

Interview with Åsa Gessle in Hallandsposten

asa_gessle_in_hallandspostenThere is a long and very nice interview with Åsa Gessle in Hallandsposten today, both in printed format and on their website. You will also find some cool pics of Fru Nordin in there. Interview is done by Christian Albinsson, pics by Anders Andersson.

Åsa talks mainly about Hotel Tylösand, her role in the hotel’s life, her designer career, her relationship to Per, as well as her love towards Halmstad, life around Roxette and her filming on tours.

The article mentions Åsa and Per acquired Hotel Tylösand relatively cheaply in 1995 together with businessman Björn Nordstrand. Åsa says they re-invest a lot into the hotel each year. She finds it fun that the hotel is constantly growing and renewed, because she always had a dream to run a hotel, although she thought that it would rather be a small boutique hotel in the countryside than a large conference center.

Regarding Per, Åsa says he is more interested in the art hanging on the hotel’s walls and what kind of wines are served at the restaurants, design ideas, appearance etc. are more Åsa’s thing.

In the Hallandsposten interview she mentions there are plans to create a sun terrace on the roof top of the spa building. Mrs. Gessle says many of her favorite hotels abroad have such a sun terrace with a bar. She is very proud of her babies, Leif’s Bar & Grill and Bettans Bar and says she feels herself at home there.

She talks about how she ended up in Halmstad 33 years ago, in 1982, when she moved to there to open a clothes shop with her then-boyfriend. Their relationship came to an end and she was introduced to Per by a common friend of theirs, Lars Nordin.

I already knew who Per was, but Gyllene Tider were not exactly my idols, so to speak. I had also lived a few years abroad and had not really kept track of Per’s career.

As Åsa tells Hallandsposten, love came approximately a month later, when Per sent her a letter written in tongue-in-cheek style, which truly characterizes Per. He wrote about her dog and if she could kindly leave the dog at home if he had a chance to invite Åsa for dinner. Since then they are a couple. By the way, Fru Nordin says Per still likes writing handwritten letters.

As written in the Hallandsposten article, Åsa planned everything around the Roxette trips. She and Per were travelling together since 1989, stayed at many hotels and in the beginning they could see less of the cities they stayed in, but nowadays it’s quieter and they have time to stop and collect impressions.

Besides organizing the travelling and gathering inspiration from different hotels, Åsa has always had a camera with herself. The Jonas Åkerlund film (Roxette Diaries) we already wrote about will soon be completed, however, it’s still not decided where to broadcast it.

Hallandsposten writes about Halmstad life being perfect for Åsa, she loves living there, while Stockholm suits Per more. He has more social life in the Swedish capital.

I also like to go out and dance to dance bands, last time about a week ago in Västerhagen. I still have sore muscles. Dancing to dance bands is not something I do with Per. 🙂

We’re going home to Halmstad to gather strength. I love to go to Prince Bertil’s path, which I do almost every day. It’s awesome that new things are happening there all the time and the landscape changes along the way. My favorite spot is Tylöbäck where there is a kind of magical atmosphere, although I think one should clean up a little of all the old trees…

Another favorite spot is the garden where Åsa and Per like just to sit and enjoy peace, and to have breakfast in the special breakfast corner.

It’s nice to have a little routine. Per always drinks filter coffee at certain times, like an old lady, ha ha.

In the interview Åsa talks about her designer career. It started in 2007 when there was a housing exhibition in Halmstad and Lars Nordin asked her if she would decorate one of the apartments. First she said no, because they were in the middle of a tour, but she now mentions the real reason was that she thought it was a little scary. She accepted the challenge in the end and she used By Rydéns lamps in that apartment, so she got in good contact with them. Now she is designing lamps for them. The theme is love and peace and the peace mark is a central element of the design. There are 1 or 2 lamps each season designed by Åsa, who has learned it step by step that it is important to believe in and challenge yourself.

For Åsa, it is obvious that love makes us better people, and her message is that we should be kinder to each other and be happy for each other’s success.

Roxette XXX Tour – Dublin, Ireland (3Arena) – June 1 – #36

Last time Roxette performed in Dublin was 3 years ago and they played at the same arena which was called The O2 Arena back then. The show was one of the best gigs during that world tour according to those who attended it. Even if Irish people came late to the venue last night, no stressing about the front row at the anyway quite small standing area, the arena was fully packed already by the time Eskobar got on stage.

Just some minutes before showtime Per posted the crowd pic. We were afraid he would miss the start of the concert while being busy on Facebook, but he made it to the stage in time and they all kicked ass with Sleeping In My Car. Mr. Left Leg Stomper was in top form and Ms. Marie also enjoyed the show to the full, as well as all band members who were wearing a hat and those without a hat.

The crowd was loud and it wasn’t necessary to ask them to sing along. They loved the setlist and sang along all songs happily by themselves. Great atmosphere, rocking band, noise-making crowd. What else could you ask for? Some balloons maybe? Oh yeah. No surprise there were balloons during Joyride, but it’s always much fun when they get close to Per. Now he picked up one landing in the front part of the stage and threw it back to the crowd when they came back for the extra songs. See it in this video.

At the end of the concert someone threw a bra on stage. Magnus picked it up and handed it over to Per. Mr. G took it and when he saw what it was he gave it right back. LOL. Poor guy. 😉 You can see it at the end of this The Look video.

Per’s long and meaningful post after the show:

DUBLIN UPDATE: Oh the land of Guiness and U2. It’s always a pleasure being here. Truly fantastic evening at the 3 Arena (last time we were here it was called O2 Arena, the first time around it was The Point… what’s happening to this world?).

Beautiful crowd tonite + a decent band, we certainly had a good time. Hope you enjoyed it too, folks!

Chris sneeked in both Jailbreak and Dirty Old Town as well as the Irish Rover. Well done, professor O’Lundquist! Next stop: Trondheim, Norway. Cheers, P.

Now comes a little break until the next gig, which is on 13th June in Trondheim, Norway. That is a sold out show by the way.
