Gyllene Tider – GT40 – Skövde – 12th July 2019 – #5

The guys and girls had a day off after Helsingborg and the tour continued last night in Skövde. On our way to the venue, entering the town, we saw a huge digital screen that promoted different concerts, Gyllene Tider among them.

It might sound stupid that I always mention what the weather was like before or during the show, but Swedish summer can really have an effect on the concert experience. While we were waiting outside the venue, it was sunny and the rain visited us for only a few minutes every now and then. We hoped for no rain during the concert, but unfortunately, the weather forecast turned out to be correct…

While we were still outside, waiting for the gates to open, we saw the band arriving to the venue and they entered the catering area just next to us, where we were lining up. Nice ending to our waiting time. Haha.

The setting was a bit similar to Helsingborg, except for the fact that in Skövde the side screens were used again. On one of them, a tiny little part of the lighting didn’t work, so a technician came and like Spiderman, climbed up on the back of the side panel and fixed it. He got an applause from the audience.

A big part of the entering people went to the venue early to have the best picnic spots. This happens only in Sweden. Haha. Already during Chris Kläfford, the support act, it was clear to me that this crowd is loud and very much into having a great night out. And they proved I was right. What an awesome, loud sing-along audience it was! They were singing along all songs and jumping and dancing and clapping and all!

The band was in absolute top shape! Probably, the crowd’s great mood added much to the guys’ and girls’ mood too. They were smiling constantly and rocked Skövde! MP was even more active than on the previous shows. He even threw many guitar picks of his to the crowd. Regarding Anders I can say he arrived to the GT40 tour. I think he needed these few first gigs to really get into it all. Last night he was even coming to the front part of the stage and smiled a lot and looked to the crowd too. Now only Göran needs to be a bit more at ease and bounce a bit more behind his Farfisa. Micke Syd was on a high when he could get closer to the crowd on his song and his drumming ruled on all the other songs. Per interacted even more with MP and Malin-My on stage, as well as his technician, Micke N-S and he was bouncing around all the time. Dea and Malin-My changed their stage clothes to black ones. They looked even better than in the red and pink clothes before. And they were of course dancing a lot and doing the backing vocals, animating the crowd, plus Malin-My played a number of instruments too, as usual.

The setlist changed a bit vs. Helsingborg, which means the Golden Guys skipped Chrissie, hur mår du? and Billy, and they played 22 songs this way. Actually, they planned to play 23 songs according to MP’s setlist and in the first encore the first song would have been Skrot och korn again, not Billy. It was most probably cut due to the extremely heavy rain. It started with showers at Vandrar i ett sommarregn (Weather God took the title too seriously) then stopped and started again, until after Låt denna trumslagarpojke sjunga! when the ponchos had to be taken on. Well… it didn’t matter. Despite wearing a poncho we still got soaking wet, it was such a heavy rain. But the crowd was full of really enthusiastic people and one could see how the band appreciated our perseverance. It was lovely! During the closing song, Micke Syd chose to be sitting on the edge of the upper stage, because the rain didn’t let him come down, closer to us.

According to Micke Syd, the gig was sold out and according to Per there were appr. 10,000 people in the audience.

This was the first show where Anders Roos wasn’t there to take photos. Åsa also didn’t travel to Skövde with the gang, but Micke Syd’s wife, Helena was there.

It’s usually the actual gig that seems to be the best so far and I dare to say that it was a fantastic concert, really the best so far. If I want to quote Per, it’s hard to top, but not impossible. Next stop is Linköping, so let’s see what happens there!

Gyllene Tider – GT40 – Helsingborg – 10th July 2019 – #4

6 years ago, exactly on 10th July, Gyllene Tider played the very same venue in Helsingborg, Sofiero Slott. Per also played here 2 years ago on his Swedish solo tour. What I remembered from those past Helsingborg concerts is that people love to have a picnic there and they love to sing along and they are loud. My memory served me right and the crowd hasn’t changed over the years. Many were queueing for long hours just to reach the best picnic spots inside, hardcore fans were queueing for the front row. Everyone to their own. The crowd didn’t change soundwise either. They are still loud and happy to sing along. The only thing on the negative side is that people get drunk very easily in Helsingborg and then they start being pushy and rude. The security guys did a great job in the front and either convinced the pushing ones to behave or they took them out from the crowd. This way unfortunately, there were quite some moments when we were more occupied with what’s happening around us than what’s on stage.

Sofiero Slott being a huge venue, I was surprised that there were no side screens this time, so I don’t know how much those in the back saw from the concert. But they were probably happy with their meals, eating on their blankets and listening to fab live music.

Regarding the setlist I had high hopes the guys would change it vs. Malmö, because there was a live soundcheck at 5 pm and then besides Det hjärta som brinner and Vandrar i ett sommarregn they played Puls and Billy too. I wouldn’t have expected that both Puls and Billy would make it to the setlist though, but it did happen. Puls was introduced simply as a song from the 80’s and was performed right after Det hjärta som brinner.  Billy was the first song played in the first encore. Yeah, the first song in the first encore… Which means Skrot och korn got kicked off of the setlist. Too bad, but Billy was very much welcomed.

I really like the fact that there were no exact same setlists so far on the tour and I hope it stays like this. The guys should play as many of their songs as possible on their last tour. I’m also impressed that the setlist didn’t get any shorter. Knock on wood! There are 24 songs now, so 1 extra compared to the first 3 shows.

This was the first concert from the 4 so far that I saw from the right side. The whole gang was visible, no one was ”hiding” behind someone else’s back. Only Micke Syd was less visible behind the drums, but the sound of his drumming and him coming to the front for 3 songs compensated us. When he came to sing Låt denna trumslagarpojke sjunga! and told he wouldn’t sing Min tjej och jag on this tour, he also mentioned that he and his wife celebrate their 14th anniversary next Saturday. The audience cheered him loudly.

The guys and girls up on stage were very fit again. They enjoyed some days off before this sold-out show that probably helped them being more relaxed. I mean mentally relaxed, because physically they were quite energetic and powerful. Per was bouncing around a lot and the girls were doing the twist in the background. MP was very much into this concert again. It’s awesome to see him enjoying to be there and playing his guitar. Anders and Göran hardly move, but they are masters of their own instruments. Micke Syd is as cool behind his drumset as in the front of the stage.

When the guys left us after Tylö Sun, the crowd started singing ojojojojoj and soon the boys and girls came back on stage. Before the second encore everyone felt one song is definitely missing, so the audience started singing Sommartider and yep, the gang came back. While everyone on stage had their instruments with them, Per was standing there without a guitar, so he said into the mic that all he needs is a guitar. Then Micke N-S, his technician rushed in and gave him a guitar. Micke Syd asked the audience to applaud the guitar guy. Haha.

After saying goodbye for one last time in Helsingborg, Per tried to throw some of his remaining picks to the crowd, but they didn’t fly too far so he left some more on his mic stand. Micke Syd thought he would help Mr. G out and he took off all the picks and threw them to the crowd. Per was laughing.

Åsa was there this time too and she filmed a lot. It’s always so lovely to see how much she still enjoys her husband’s music. Let’s hope the little clips will show up soon on any social media site handled by PG.

Next stop is Skövde, but before that, everyone gets one day off.

GT after the show:

GIG #4 SOFIERO, HELSINGBORG. Alltid kul att komma till vackra Sofiero. Tack alla för att ni hjälpte oss med ett minne för livet. Fantastisk kväll, picnic all around, ni är bäst!!!! /GT

Gyllene Tider – GT40 – Malmö – 6th July 2019 – #3

Gyllene Tider’s tour continued in Malmö without a day off after the first 2 Halmstad concerts. When there are 3 gigs in a row, it’s usually the third one that is the best and it was the case this time too. The guys and girls topped the 2 shows they did before!

The 3rd concert on the GT40 tour was sold out too so it was tight in the crowd in Mölleplatsen. On top of the audience there were quite some seagulls as visitors. Mainly doing circles above the food court area, but they also had a close eye on the stage and the speakers and they seemed to enjoy their spots. Though they stayed only until the show started. Haha.

In Malmö there was only 1 support act, Chris Kläfford. The weather was windy and freezing cold, but at least it stopped raining at appr. 5 pm and we didn’t have to use our ponchos during the gig at all.

While we were waiting outside, we heard the technicians’ rehearsal and Billy was on. We thought oh, what a nice addition it would be to the setlist, maybe changing the 5th song GT seemed to change so far. And where else to play Billy if not in Malmö? Två enkla biljetter till Malmö central, tack! Hm… this never happened. I wonder why. The guys skipped Vanliga saker and played Chrissie, hur mår du? as the 3rd song instead and then after Det hjärta som brinner, the 5th hit was Flickorna på TV2 this time and as the 6th song they performed Vandrar i ett sommarregn again, just like on the premiere show. It’s lovely that they kept Chrissie, but I missed Vanliga saker badly since that’s one of my Top3 songs from the new album and I would also have been happier if they put Billy on the setlist and kept the 5th song as a changing element from concert to concert. Let’s hope we will still have some surprises on the setlist during the rest of the tour.

Even though the crowd wasn’t the most active except for the first 2-3 rows and they were singing along towards the end of the gig, mostly during the encores, what we saw on stage was the best so far. Regarding the crowds… I always think: do they realize it’s really the last tour now and the last chance to hear these Golden Guys together live??? Per was an energy bomb and Micke Syd as well. MP played the coolest last night and Göran and Anders seem to get more and more into tour mood. Dea and Malin-My were as energetic as on the first 2 shows, twisting and rocking around throughout the whole concert. All 7 people were on a high!

There were some technical hiccups, OK, like Per got to the technicians on the left to tell to fix something and couldn’t get back to his mic on time for the lines he had to sing in Ljudet av ett annat hjärta, but the one line missing was sang by the front of the crowd, so no worries. Also it was fun to hear Per sat in a taxi instead of a Jumbo in Flickan i en Cole Porter-sång. Haha. I don’t mention these hiccups because they are big issues. Probably, it’s only the hardcores who notice them anyway. It’s just that it’s lovely to see Mr. G’s reactions, facial expressions when such things happen, the PERfectionist he is. Never mind. The sound was great and the real powerful performance of the band made it a night to remember.

Compared to the Halmstad gigs, there was less talking between the songs, but it was all fun. When Per first talked to the crowd, after Juni, juli, augusti, he greeted the Malmö crowd on the 40th anniversary tour and told if they want to sing along, they are welcome and if they want to dance, good luck. Then he introduced Chrissie, hur mår du? simply as a song from the past.

The wind was blowing so hard that when Per changed the guitar for Vandrar i ett sommarregn he said it’s so windy we might get to see his six-pack. We all laughed and he laughed too. Who really showed his six-pack was Micke Syd though. Only for some seconds, but when he changed his jacket before Låt denna trumslagarpojke sjunga! he was joking with it.

While everyone got prepared for Tuffa tider, the lyrics to Låt denna trumslagarpojke sjunga! were fixed on different parts of the stage in the front for Micke Syd. Per was talking to the audience and said when he was sitting in his childhood room and listened to Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, he never imagined he once would be standing in front of 13000 people and play the ukulele. He said life is a bitch. Haha. But he confirmed he loves the ukulele and George Formby.

Micke Syd talked a bit longer before Låt denna trumslagarpojke sjunga! in Malmö. He mentioned that Mölleplatsen is an important place for him, because in 1996 there was a girl who came to see them there. Her name was Helena Eriksson. In 2004 he proposed to Helena on stage in Örjans vall, Halmstad and they have been married now for 14 years. This is how he introduced the new song written for him and that he wouldn’t sing Min tjej och jag. After the song Per said it’s hard to top, but not impossible. Haha.

Yesterday was the first time we got to see that besides Per’s customized guitar picks there are custom-made ones for MP too. Watch out for it, because MP is not the guy who is throwing too many picks to the crowd.

After seeing the first 3 shows, my Top 4 highlight songs are Flickorna på TV2, Det kändes inte som maj, Ljudet av ett annat hjärta and När vi två blir en. These are all perfectly arranged and Det kändes inte som maj as a new song fits so well in the GT catalogue. The best choice from the new album to be played live.

Now everyone can have a few days of rest and the band is back on the road on Wednesday, in Helsingborg. Yet another sold-out show!

Gyllene Tider after the concert:

Gig #3! Mölleplatsen, Malmö. Wow, heja Skåne! Grymt gig i blåsten. Vi hade hur kul som helst. Tack för all sång o dans o tjoho bland vindarna. Nu tar vi paus i några dagar. Next stop: Helsingborg. Love from the Golden boys + girls.

Gyllene Tider – GT40 – Halmstad – 5th July 2019 – #2

Last night Gyllene Tider played their 2nd Halmstad show on their GT40 tour and at the same time, it was the last ever concert in their hometown. While the first gig was defined by the rain, last nite we couldn’t complain about the weather. Sunshine, happiness! Per told the crowd that the first show was a little ”smygpremiär” (”secret gig”) for them.

Before GT entered the stage at 21:00, there were the same 2 support acts as on the first Halmstad night. When the Pink Panther theme started we already knew the time has come and soon the guys and girls appeared on stage. The crowd’s cheering was even louder than the day before and the whole mood stayed on a high from the audience’s side. Almost all songs were accompanied by loud sing-alongs and the clapping made much noise too.

All the guys and girls on stage were very energetic through the whole show. One could see they were over the premiere gig’s stress and more at ease. They could concentrate more on the fun part of the concert. We could see more smiles on their faces and more interactions between the band members. The lyrics to the new songs have to be practiced a bit more though, but since the biggest part of the audience has to learn it too, it was no issue.

In the setlist there was only 1 difference vs. the first Halmstad show. The guys changed Vandrar i ett sommarregn to Chrissie, hur mår du? It was a very good choice. I think this latter one worked much better. Now I start wondering if they change that one song on each gig. Would be cool!

Åsa was there at both concerts so far and recorded a lot. Hopefully, we will get to see some videos on Gyllene Tider’s social media sites soon. Anders Roos was taking photos also at both shows so far and probably will be there at most of the concerts.

There is not much time to take a rest. Next stop is Malmö without a day off!

Gyllene Tider after the show:

GT40 – GIG #2 BROTTET, HALMSTAD! /P&Co

Gyllene Tider – GT40 – Halmstad – 4th July 2019 – #1

Gyllene Tider started their GT40 farewell tour yesterday in Halmstad. Still hard to believe that this is their very last tour, but well… there are 18 more gigs to enjoy their playing live. If you don’t have a ticket for any of their shows yet, do yourself a favour and get one! Try to find a concert that is not sold out yet and go see them live!

Weather God in Halmstad seemed not to be on our side. It was raining all day, sometimes only showers, sometimes heavy rain. No sun at all. I was thinking of past gigs in the rain and as I remembered, all of them turned out fab, so there was nothing to be afraid of.

The guys had their soundcheck in the afternoon and we heard they were rehearsing Vandrar i ett sommarregn among other songs. How stylish. Haha. The gates opened at 6 pm and a few hundred people were let in. The rest of the audience arrived continuously a bit later. When we entered we could see the stage. It looked wonderful! The old Gyllene Tider logo above the stage (that appeared in different colours during the gig), GT40 written on the backdrop screens and on the side screens. From this, one could think the backdrop would show different designs during the night and yes, the whole projection was of premium quality and each song got its own backdrop. Beautiful!

The crew was constantly wiping off the stage, because even if there was a roof above it, the rain didn’t let it stay dry.

There were 2 support acts: Christof Jeppsson, a Halmstad troubadour who was on stage from 19:30 and then Chris Kläfford, known mostly from Swedish Idol. He entered the stage some minutes after 20:00. Both acts played for appr. 30 minutes.

We all couldn’t wait anymore for Gyllene Tider to come up on stage and guess what! It stopped raining 10 minutes before the show! But it’s Sweden and we thought it wouldn’t last until the end of the concert, so it came back after an hour, at Kung av sand. But no one really cared. The gig was so amazing! And sold out! Appr. 11000 people went to see GT on the first Halmstad night on this tour.

The intro was the theme song from Pink Panther. First we didn’t realize it would be the intro, but the guys suddenly appeared on stage and the crowd was cheering them loudly. Their stage clothes looked fab on them, I immediately saw that Per’s black nails are back too and hey, it wasn’t only the 5 guys performing this time, but 2 ladies joined them for doing backing vocals (and more): Malin-My Wall and Dea Norberg. We know them well from previous Roxette and Per Gessle tours. Everyone on stage looked excited and maybe a bit nervous. It was a premiere gig after all. But they shouldn’t have been worried about anything, all turned out to be fantastic!

It was a good choice to start with uptempo songs. Per first talked to the crowd after Juni, juli, augusti. He greeted the crowd, welcomed us on GT’s 40th anniversary tour and said it ’s nice to see so many people here despite the wonderful Swedish weather. He mentioned they are happy to start the tour at home in Halmstad and the audience was happy about it too. He asked us to sing along and dance if we can, but it might be tight for that. Haha. Then came Vanliga saker from the new album and it sounded cool live too. Det hjärta som brinner was quite obvious that it would appear on the setlist being one of the guys’ favourites. Then it slowed down a bit with Vandrar i ett sommarregn which is from the album Puls and GT never played it live before. Before they played this song, Per was kidding Anders with his 80’s title, Sweden’s most good-looking guy. A story that never gets old.

Flickorna på TV2 is still on of Gyllene Tider’s biggest hit, no matter what year we are in and what the lyrics contain. It was great to hear the song live again. Per also said it’s still fun to play. Another hit (Dansar inte lika bra som) Sjömän came after that, a real party song. Then the (for me) most GT-ish song from the new album, Det kändes inte som maj was played. Another uptempo gem that made the crowd clap along heavily.

Flickan i en Cole Porter-sång was introduced by Per as a song that is about dreaming and was curious if we recognized it. We did, of course! Sing along guaranteed! Dubi dubi dam da!

Per’s beautiful colorful ukulele was brought to the stage and he said when he was listening to Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple in his room when he was a kid, he never thought one day he would be performing on an ukulele in front of 11000 people. It was Tuffa tider’s turn and after Micke Syd changed is shoes, he also came to the front. Göran also came and played melodika in the front next to Micke Syd.

Per first introduced the new members of the band and greeted Dea and Malin-My. Then one after another introduced the guys in GT. Halmstad’s own boogie king, MP and the pride of Oskartsröm, Göran. Referring to Sweden’s most good-looking guy, Per said, you know who it is on bass, Anders Herrlin! Micke Syd was sitting in front of his drum set and stood up when Per introduced him, last but least. Haha. They high-fived each other and then Micke introduced Per as the best from Simlångsdalen, Per Håkan Gessle. Then Micke Syd said now it would be him standing in the limelight and Per sat in front of Micke’s drum set, still holding the ukulele in his hands. Micke Syd told we probably think he would sing Min tjej och jag, but he wouldn’t do that again. He said we all grew up and Per anyway wrote a new song for him. He asked the crowd to hold up their hands if they could sing along. Many held up their hands, Per did that too. Haha. Micke Syd switched on the pre-recorded drumming on this song, put on a shiny jacket and he stayed in the front to sing Låt denna trumslagarpojke sjunga! Per was playing the ukulele during the song, the girls supported Micke too and it sounded cool! At the end of it Micke Syd sat next to Per and then Per jumped up and played the last chord on the ukulele in front of his mic and said it’s hard to top what Micke Syd did now.

Kung av sand brought the rain back, but it really didn’t matter. We enjoyed the concert regardless, hearing such a beautiful ballad. Then came 5 good old uptempo songs one after another, real party again. It wasn’t a medley, actually, to my surprise, there was no medley at all during the whole show. We got complete songs only, which is a plus! There was no pause between these 5 songs, only a guitar change before Ska vi älska, så ska vi älska till Buddy Holly.

After Tylö Sun, Per thanked the crowd and they all went off stage. But the concert didn’t end here of course. The crowd wanted them back and after a few minutes, giving the chance for Per to change clothes they came back and played their first encore of 3 songs, starting with Skrot och korn from the new album. Per thanked for the crowd for staying there despite the weather, he said we are fantastic. Skrot och korn was a cool addition to the setlist too. It was nice to hear a fourth song from the new album. Then 2 uptempo hits from the 90’s and they went off stage again.

Many of us wondered if the second encore would contain Billy or Puls and if the guys finish the set with Sommartider, but the last 3 songs started with När vi två blir en, another must-play-live GT hit. The guys and girls then performed Sommartider with crowd sing along, but it wasn’t the last song. They kept När alla vännerna gått hem to say goodbye to all. Before the last song the girls went off stage. Per told the crowd they are wonderful and thanked for coming. Micke Syd came to the front, only Göran stayed in the back, at his Farfisa. At the end of the show both Micke Syd and Per thanked the crowd again, Per told to take care of each other. The girls came back, Göran came to the front and they took a bow and waved goodbye. The girls went off again and the Golden Guys stayed there for some more time to take a bow again and off they went.

Gosh! It was such an amazing tour start! I liked everything about it. The setlist (maybe adding at least 1 song from DATPR would have been nice though), the stage, the stage clothes, the energy of these guys being almost or over 60, but still rocking big time, the addition of the girls who were partying throught the whole concert. Is it tonight yet??? Let’s see how the second Halmstad show will be. The sun is out, just saying! 😉

Per & Co. after the gig:

Lägesrapport 5 juli 2019. Oj, klockan är redan 3 på eftermiddagen. Dags för nytt kaffe. Solen lyser! Love from the GT camp via P.
