Gessle for Aftonbladet: we must decide what to do with Roxette

While Roxette was in New York, Per Gessle met Per Bjurman, journalist of Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet. Gessle hasn’t revealed anything new, but there are some facts that we should take into consideration thinking about Roxette and Gyllene Tider’s future. Those are the most interesting quotes from him.

The tour has been the world’s weirdest rehab, Marie’s in a top form again. What we’ll do in the future depends on how she reacts for not playing.

It is a bit special with the US. Knowing how much radio airplay we still get over here, we should’ve sold out Madison Square Garden, but like twenty years ago, we play in a theater. People here recognize the songs very well, but not us as artists. They are constantly singing at our gigs.

We’ve talked about it [Gyllene Tider’s reunion] every year since 2009 and yes, we are “on speaking terms”. We have been there all the time, we just think differently.

But nothing is set, so I cannot confirm it. First we must decide what to do with this band [Roxette]. Above all, it is all about Marie. This tour has been the world’s weirdest rehab she’s started and the question is how it affects her to take two years off. Maybe it’s better for her that we continue to play, I do not know. These are difficult questions.

USA fans getting ready for Roxette’s visit: fan meeting, contest and more!

In less than two weeks Roxette will be rocking the Beacon Theatre in New York. This will be the first concert out of four of Roxette in USA and a group of six Roxette fans are preparing some nice events to celebrate and enjoy the party together.

These fans have created a group in Facebook where they share and organise everything.

Here is an overview so you don’t miss a thing:

– “The Big A.” – Fan meeting in New York before the concert. Meeting point is Boat Basin Café at around 6 p.m. EDT. More information in this event here.

– Contest to win a Meet&Greet with Roxette in one of the 4 shows.  Six contests have been set up (ie create banners, take pictures of your collection, create a piece of art…).
Check this file out for detailed information on how to participate and win!
Note: it’s for USA citizens or residents only! RoxetteBlog will be the jury in one of the contests.

– The Roxette in North America T-shirt! The team has designed a t-shirt for the occasion, which could be ordered by anyone interested. You can see the design here.

More events may show up the next days.

Thank you Miedy Bishop, Adam Bishop, Lana Sachse, Jennifer Malcome, Marc Tannen and Kemerly for organising all this! See you next week.

Official US tour press release – Roxette to play in New York, Boston, San Francisco & Los Angeles

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., April 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/

Three years after their 2009 comeback, Swedish pop phenomenon Roxette are hotter than they’ve been since their early ’90s heyday. Roxette’s world tour is in full swing with almost one million concert tickets sold since the tour kicked off a year ago at the Tatneft Arena in Russian Kazan. On top of that, another million Roxette records have been added to the already dizzying 70 million they’ve sold over the years.

So far the band has played more than 85 shows in more than 30 countries (and the trip continues—they don’t plan to rest until they’ve played 150 shows). But besides zigzagging between airports, arenas, hotels and meeting with fans from all over the world, the band also has found time to record their new album, Travelling, to be released digitally in the U.S. on June 5 by Capitol/EMI.

The idea has been to tap into all the positive energy that has boosted the band during this dazzling trip, and channel it into new Roxette music. In short, an album that, just like 1992’s Tourism, captures the feeling of a band on a roll—constantly on the move, snatching inspiration as they go; recording in hotel rooms, studios, at soundchecks and in concert.

The result is a fascinating musical postcard with 15 superb songs, most of which are new, some that are revisited classics and others being pearls that for various reasons haven’t seen the light of day before. A tight and inspired band has gathered around a batch of Gessle tunes, where the relentless hit-maker again and again proves that his sense of melody and ability to surprise is still top-notch.

“It’s Possible” is the first taster from Travelling – 2 minutes and 34 seconds of sunny pop music that shows one of Roxette’s many sides in 2012. There’s more to come.
