Per Gessle nominated as Hallandian of The Year for the third time!

It’s the third time Per Gessle is nominated as Hallandian of The Year. The first 2 winners in 2019 and 2020 were Janne Andersson and Boris Lennerhov.

The prize is awarded by the Marketing Association in Halland in collaboration with Hallandsposten and Hallands Nyheter. Hallandians themselves have been able to participate and nominate people who they think have helped to put Halland on the map in 2021.

Canita Dagård, CEO of the Marketing Association in Halland says she’s been bombarded with nominations in emails until recently and she thinks it’s great fun. They have tried to find a good mix of professions, men and women and try to get people from all over Halland. It has been tough to choose the five candidates, but they are happy with the selection.

Voting runs from 22nd November to 5th December.

The winner will be awarded at the breakfast gala in Halmstad Arena on 16th December and HP will broadcast the award ceremony on television. In addition to the honor, the winner will also receive a large banner at Halmstad Airport and have a portrait hanging next to the previous winners at the airport. In addition, the winner will receive a unique painting painted by Halland artist Dagmar Glemme and small medal.

Roxette – “It Must Have Been Love” played 6 million times on US radio

BMI proudly honoured the top UK and European songwriters, composers and music publishers of the most-performed songs of the previous year at the 2021 BMI London Awards. Among others, honourees for Million-Air Awards were announced as well. As BMI states, they recognize and celebrate these accomplished songwriters whose classic standards have literally been played millions and millions of times in the U.S.

Listen To Your Heart celebrated its 6-Million-Air Award a year ago, now it’s It Must Have Been Love’s turn! American radios played it 6 million times! If it was constantly played, it would mean almost 50 years! Pure awesomeness!

Roxette reached their 3rd No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with IMHBL on 16th June 1990 and stayed on top of the chart for 2 weeks. In 2000 Per received the award from BMI for this song being played over 3 million times on American radio, for 4 million he got the award in 2005 and for 5 million plays in 2014.

And hey, it started out as a Christmas song that found its way to hot-hot Hollywood! At least 6 million thanks to Per Gessle for writing this most amazing ballad and to Marie Fredriksson for adding her wonderful vocals and turning it into Roxette’s signature song! Big congrats! Big! Huge!

Per Gessle nominated as Hallandian of The Year again!

It’s the second time Per Gessle is nominated as Hallandian of The Year. Last year’s winner was Janne Andersson.

Last year the competition was decided by voting, but this time an expert jury from MiH, Hallandsposten and Hallands Nyheter will choose the winner. They do this to make it as fair as possible, because nowadays it’s easy to start a voting campaign on social media.

There are 7 nominees and the winner will be announced at MiH’s breakfast gala held in Halmstad Arena without an audience on 17th December, live broadcast on Hallandsposten.

The jury’s motivation for nominating Per: „One of Sweden’s most successful artists and songwriters. A musical genius who has gilded many people’s lives with Roxette, Gyllene Tider and as a solo artist. At prime time, Per is an obvious guest on the TV couch, when he is once again releasing a new album. He opens up when the media stands in line to do interviews with him, one of the world’s greatest hitmakers. Per is faithful to his hometown and still has his base in Halmstad where he relaxes with walks next to his Hotel Tylösand.”

Good luck, Mr. G!

Roxette’s long-time manager Marie Dimberg receives Honorary award for Swedish Music Export

As we posted about it yesterday, at a ceremony at the Swedish Department of Foreign Affairs, Marie Dimberg was awarded the Swedish Government’s Honorary award for a lifetime achievement of Music Export.

Marie Dimberg says she was very surprised, honoured and happy when chairman of the jury for this called her quite some time ago – actually the day after Marie Fredriksson’s passing.

She tells:

My work has always been more of a lifestyle than an actual job. It’s impossible to describe the feeling of being at a Roxette concert in e.g. Johannesburg and the crowd of 50-60.000 people sing a long in a song written in small town Halmstad. Or to be part of a dream come true when Peter Jöback enters the stage on Broadway as Phantom of the Opera, one of the world’s most iconic roles. To see Agnes’ ”Release Me” climb the charts and a star is born. To hear Peter Gabriel praise Loney Dear and his incredible talent. I’ve had the privilege to be part of all of this and so much more. Those feelings are the fireworks, the goosebumps and the reward for the basis of everything; hard work and great teamwork.

Marie started her management in 1997. She began her career at EMI Records, in Sweden continued as VP of International in London and before leaving she was Marketing Director of EMI Sweden. Marie was instrumental already from the start of Roxette’s international breakthrough. Marie has been named the Most Influential Woman in the Swedish music industry and 2016 she was awarded the Denniz Pop Award for The Most Valuable Person.

2017 she teamed up with partner Tomas Jernberg and created the nordic management company Dimberg Jernberg. The company currently represents: Roxette, Per Gessle, Jonas Åkerlund, Christopher, Nause, Peter Jöback, Loney Dear, Molly Hammar, Gyllene Tider, Frida Öhrn, LOK, Emmi Christensson and BJOERN.

With new Roxette releases, and big successes with multi-platinum selling danish artist Christopher – being one of the biggest male pop stars in his home country, ramping up his career especially in Asia, and many exciting projects for 2021 in the making, the company is more vivid than ever.

See Marie talking about receiving the award HERE.

Very well deserved, Marie! Big congrats and keep up the good work!
