Is there a Per Gessle solo coming?

You might remember our last year article about Gyllene Tider becoming the sponsor of IS Halmia and you already know Per is a major sponsor of Halmia since many years. When Roxette became active again, the girls had Roxette as their sponsor, then in 2013, when GT released a new album and went on tour, it was Gyllene Tider printed on their official jersey (already 2 months before their new album, “Dags att tänka på refrängen” came out).

The girls are dressed for success again! Maybe it has nothing to do with any upcoming tours or any new albums and we don’t know what that surprise could be on 26th April, but nice to see this year it’s GESSLE [heart] HALMIA on the jerseys. Heja Halmia!

PS: IS Halmia should use the link to Per’s official website instead of what they are using now at the Sponsors. Not that there is any news on gessle.com since last year. No complaint though. We love having Mr G on Facebook each day instead. 😉

Marie’s tour: Halmstad, 21st March #11

Halmstad was cooking almost at the same temperature as Gothenburg! What a great show and what a great audience again!

Since the venue was changed from Halmstad Arena to Halmstad Theater, a much smaller place, everyone who bought the tickets already the first day they went on sale in October was worrying about the seats, how the organizers would solve this issue. We hoped for not sitting in the 15th row if we had a ticket for the 1st row, however, the organizers tried to assure us that it wouldn’t be the case. We were still not sure about how it could work, until we actually got into the theater and saw that they renumbered the seats, so everyone could be satisfied with the new seats.

In the audience – besides many Roxers from abroad (Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Spain, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Denmark, etc.)there were Göran Fritzon (from Gyllene Tider) and Jan-Owe Wikström (Hallandsposten; author of the Alla tiders Gyllene Tider book among others). We missed 1 big Roxer though, but we hope for his appearance at least in the crowd at a future concert. Per, you must go and see Ms Effe! She’s awesome! But you know that.

Some of us met Marie and the band when they arrived to Halmstad and they were all smiles already then. We were excited to see them on stage again. Before the show, when almost everyone found their places, a girl from the crew came and distributed some signed Marie cards (the one you could get if you pre-ordered her album Nu!) to the fans in the front rows. It was very nice. Thanks a lot for that!

MF_Halmstad_03And the show began. Should I mention Marie was barefoot? Now it’s quite evident she performs like that and we just love it.

After the acoustic Så stilla så långsamt we just jumped up from our seats and so did almost the whole audience, so the fab intro of Kom vila hos mig led us to a great party this time again. Halmstad crowd was almost as cooperative as the one in Gothenburg. Marie mentioned it already at this song how fantastic the audience is. She kept the acting she did in Gothenburg during Bara för en dag. So lovely! The bridge between Det regnar igen and Sista sommarens vals is still something fabulous. Ber bara en gång brought the party feeling again, but we were sitting, just clapping and dancing while sitting. At Sparvöga Marie mentioned it’s her favourite song and it sounded amazing this time, too. During Ett hus vid havet a seagull flew to the wrong place, but otherwise the performance was fantastic. Still so heart-warming how Marie and Jokke are performing it together. Then came the 2 most touching songs, Ett bord i solen and Så skimrande var aldrig havet. Marie’s facial expressions and how she feels these songs were again undescribable. Ännu doftar kärlek made the audience sing along. Not too loud, but you could hear more people were singing out loud than before. Party time again AND this time the audience stayed standing also after Så länge det lyser mittemot, so we were still dancing during Om du såg mig nu and of course during Efter stormen. Wow! THAT was a party! By the end of the tour there might be a concert where no one is sitting, but standing during the whole show. Before ES, Marie thanked the Roxette fans in English for being there. She got a loud response from the fans. Some fans also shouted ”I love you, Marie!” several times and they got a reply from Marie: ”I love you, too!” The party at the end of Den sjunde vågen when Marie already went off the stage (helped by MNS) was so intensive that even Christoffer’s hat fell off his head.

During the break we didn’t sit down, were clapping and standing all the time, waiting for Marie to come back. And she came back, of course. Micke was helping her again to find her place at the mic stand. The party went on with Mellan sommar och höst, then came Den bästa dagen. Before the closing song, Tro, Marie thanked in Swedish for all the energy she gets from the crowd. It means a lot to her. And it means a lot to us. It’s really fantastic to see her reactions, how she loves the active audience. One can see the whole band enjoys it much more when the crowd makes some noise. Even Surjo was acting more tonight, clapping and dancing a bit in the background and Micke was playing the keyboards many times standing and dancing more than how I could see them before.

MF_Halmstad_heart

At the end of the concert, a red heart was back. This time there wasn’t ”Tack!” written on it, but it was a heart-shaped pillow Marie got from a fan, Nikolett. That’s what you can see on the picture here.

Halmstad audience was really fab, joining us whenever we stood up and clapping with us to the rhythm. I loved the reactions of some older Swedish people behind me. They were happy about being part of a crowd like this and they were smiling all the time.

After the show Marie came out and gave some autographs. We also met Pelle and Chris. Chris said it really makes a difference to them when we are there. He said his favourite concert so far was Gothenburg and also Växjö, but tonight’s Halmstad show was very close to them. Chris asked us if we know the guitarist of Gyllene Tider… Of course we know! Pelle and Chris said MP (Mats MP Persson) was playing at a place not too far from the theater, so if we want to see him, we should go there. Some of us went there and yes, MP was playing with a band. They were covering e.g. Bryan Adams: Summer of 69 and we were in time for hearing their cover of Tylö Sun from Gyllene Tider. Per’s voice was definitely missing, but otherwise MP’s playing was great. I had a chance to talk to him a bit and he said they play together with this band once a month. He seemed to feel more comfortable with this cozy set up on stage than with Gyllene Tider. He agreed. This ”after-party” was a great closure of tonight.

Marie and the band are in Karlstad tomorrow. Have fun, everyone and make some noise there, too!

Per Gessle’s short message to all RoxetteBlog readers

Today me and 5 friends met Per in Halmstad. He was very nice, stopped by when he saw us, all smiles, then parked his beautiful Ferrari on the side of the road and jumped out of it. We talked a bit and took some photos. Then, when he was about to leave, I asked him to send a message to all RoxetteBlog readers (sorry for my voice, as I wrote it in my report last night, I kind of lost it during the gig). So, he sent a message. It’s short, but pure Per. 😉

Thanx for always taking your time with us, fans, Per! Much appreciated.

Gyllene Tider tour premiere – report from the front row

Actually, it’s about 4 hours after the show when I start writing this article. Still can’t sleep, as it was such an out-of-the-world experience. After becoming a Roxer in 1991 and listening to Marie’s and Per’s solo albums, I found Gyllene Tider in 1994. Never had a chance to attend any gigs back in 1996 or 2004, but now my time has come. The tour premiere couldn’t have been any better! Halmstad, front row. What else could you ask for? If you like at least some of the GT tracks, you should definitely see them live one day. What energy on stage! Per was like a Duracell bunny, just like we got used to it during Roxette’s World Tour – or even more energetic – and that voice, yeah, it will surely kill me one day! Micke Syd makes you want to play the drums and DJ Fritzon’s Farfisa magic is just awesome. MP and Anders are demigods of guitar playing, but just because Chris is God. 😉 It’s still not too late to buy your tickets to any of the concerts (except Helsingborg, which is sold out). If you are attending any gigs, maybe don’t read further and don’t check the pics, to have the ”aaaaah moment” when you’re seeing them for the first time this year.

Stage design

Hats off! It was so well-designed. As you could see on our Facebook page, we had a chance to listen a bit to the soundcheck and at the stage design for some time – until the security staff told us to please, go away. Before the concert started, there was a big black curtain with a white Gyllene Tider logo on it, so we knew there will be an intro and of course, some adrenaline involved. And we were right. The curtain fell off right after the intro. Check the setlist section for details. During the show there was a huge, awesome background monitor, on which several designs appeared, related to the songs or just close-ups from the stage or the crowd. There were several cameras, but we don’t know it yet, if they were there to ensure a great visual experience or because of a tour DVD.

Some more things to add:

  • When they came back to the stage for the 1st extra session, Per greeted the international front row. And it was really international: Australia, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Spain, Austria, Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Sweden. Sorry if I’ve left out any countries.
  • Per presented ”Det hjärta som brinner”, ”Allt jag lärt mej om livet, har jag lärt mej av Vera” and ”Sommartider” as Anders’s favourite songs.
  • What a great ending with 2 such awesome songs. ”Dags att tänka på refrängen” sounded marvellous live! There were even fireworks after the show, but from the front row, we could just hear the sounds, no visual experience for us.
  • They skipped ”Arabiska nätter” – according to the official setlist that would have been the first song in Extra 2
  • Åsa was also there. She was filming a lot.
  • The security staff was very nice and helpful from the very beginning and it stayed like this until the very end.

Thank God, I still have 6 chances to take some more of this drug with my friends this summer. I’m without voice now, but I’ll surely recover for the next gig. If you haven’t bought your ticket yet, do a favour to yourself and go to see them live! It will worth it. 😉

#gtsommar #1 Gyllene Tider – Halmstad #1, July 5

969311_385185914920132_1338018018_n

Yesterday we spent quite a lot of time on our Facebook page following all happenings around the premiere night in Halmstad. There was no bigger suprises as long as you don’t count no “Man blir yr” on the setlist. Comapring to the GT25 tour, 5 songs were replaced including 3 new from the latest album and such pearls as “På jakt efter liv”. Though they played “Arabiska nätter” at the soundcheck, it wasn’t performed after all. According to the setlist provided by one of fans, AN was planned to be performed as the first song of the second encore, just before “Sommartider”. To give you a very quick overview of what has been performed: 4 songs from “Gyllene Tider” (1980), 7 songs (we are also counting in bonus tracks) from “Moderna Tider” (1981), 4 from “Puls” (1982), 4 from 95-96 period, 2 from “Finn 5 Fel” (2004) and 4 (as long as you consider intro to be integral part of the concert) from the latest 2013 album. We shouldn’t be suprised after all, as we all know how reluctant Per & Marie were to play new songs on the Roxette tour as well.

Comment from Per Gessle:

Superb opening of the Gyllene Tider tour on home turf in Halmstad July 5th! Thanx everyone for your support. Today: the sun is up, the sky is blue: we’re on our way to Lysekil to kick some ass together with 14-15000 GT Headbangers! Sounds like a great Sunday to me! Cheers, P.

Speaking of reviews, most of them are rather positive. Hallands Nyheter’s Hilda Blomberg calls the premiere gig “an impressive show” where “hits never end”. Daniel Claeson of Goteborgs Posten gives 4/5 for the gig saying the band has never sounded so good before and it’s clear 2013 version is the best one he has ever heard. Aftonbladet gives three out of five pluses for the Halmstad gig with no particular reason for this kind of mild evaluation, additionally calling the show “lovely party for old people” but 5/5 for Gessle’s new hairdo – strange things happen, indeed. As for Expressen, it’s 3 out of 5 from Anders Nunstedt and the biggest problem Anders has is that there is almost nothing new to the Gyllene Tider show – “they are going to earn millions of crowns on this tour, but the change [between previous tour and this one] is not worth a damn”.

But we have a very good news for you Anders, Per Gessle hopes to change a little bit on every concert (though 19 tracks are must-have on every concert). So there are still high a chance for some B-sides you will surely be excited about! 🙂
