Official “Charm School” charts

We will collect the different official chart entries and positions of Roxette’s new album “Charm School” in this post. How is the album doing in your country? Let us know! Please provide sources to your numbers.

Update February 21: Roxette entered straight to #1 in Germany! Announcement by Media Control | EMI (who also provided us with a new promo picture).

Update April 1: “Charm School” enters South Africa! And Per says that it has been certified gold in Switzerland! Germany and Austria should follow that style, while the album is heading to platinum in Sweden, according to the latest Live Nation press release. And CS is not the only charting album: The current Roxette action brought the “Hits!” compilation up to #65 in the German charts…

Update April 14: The album has reached the Brasilian charts! According to different retailer charts it’s also selling well in Argentina, but the official chart site doesn’t get updated. There’s also lack of official sources for Russia and Asian countries. We’re grateful for your help!

Update April 20: “Charm School” got Gold in Germany for more than 100,000 sales! Russia now included in the table.

  1. I’m not listening radio or watching TV, only news channel, so I don’t know, but some friends told me, that they saw some posters on a bus stops here in Ostrava, it’s probably some June gig promo. But She’s Got Nothing On didn’t enter official Top 100 airplay chart here yet.

  2. WHAT A GREAT PHOTO!!!!!!!!!!! THIS REMINDS ME SO MUCH OF THE MARIE look from 2001! would love to see the other photos! 🙂

    • the picture was sent together with the press release about the #1 in Germany – I guess these are the pics Per refered to when he mentioned the photo session some days ago on FB.
Hope there are more to come!

  3. Love the photo! Somehow reminds me of the Joyride pic with a sky background. I hope we’ll see more of that session! 😀

  4. in France, the cd album is available starting from today at amazon.fr. it was officially released for download last week. no sign of any promotion anywhere in Paris. no album in the stores… hope things will move…

  5. The press release by EMI is confusing or even misleading.. it states that Roxette have sold 5,000,000 albums over the years, but if I understand correctly , it relates to the German market only ! We are always told the they have sold around 75,000,000 records over the years.. (albums and singles?) Too bad this press release is posted everywhere including roxette.se without mentioning it’s about the German market.

  6. @Rox: you are right, of course, about the sales numbers (yes, I think 75 million is both albums and singles). Luckily, the press release from December/January mentioned those numbers. And I think people would know that if Roxette were so huge in the nineties they sold more than 5 million in the world. We wouldnt mind adding another 5 millions from Charm School…

  7. Two options, they may have meant 5 000 000 in the german market, or they may have dropped the 7 while writing. Only Joyride sold more than 11 000 000 worldwide, let’s hope 11 000 000 for CS to *dreaming*. Didn’t RS sell about one million? And HAND 2,5 million? It should atleast sell as much as RS.

  8. daniel_alv :

I’m not sure that is to obvious to someone that just reads it on Roxette.se and not are a big fan.

Yes, it’s irritating. I just mean that we can see that it’s the German data and not a typo. They should correct the text anyway, Tourism being the only #1 is wrong as well.

  9. I have added Polish official album charts. Don’t know what to expect or if Roxette even enters top50, but well, here in Poland a deluxe album is counted double – so maybe there is a tiny chance, even without almost no promotion from EMI.

And it’s quite irritating as their performance on New Year’s Eve was heavly promoted by Polsat and even they broadcasted they arrival on the airport and now no one seems to have an interesting in promoting a new album.

  10. Well, they wanted to promote their TV show and not Roxette on the first hand. If it sells in Czech Republic, why not in Poland?

  11. You know – strange thing in Poland is that artists that are heavy promoted don’t sell a lot of albums. It’s very clear to me if Poland had a similiar “Wetten dass” programme and Roxette would perform there, I wouldn’t really expect that it would affect the sales. “Room service” back in 2001 was really heavy promoted here and it reached only place no 8 with around 18,000 copies sold (gold record was for 50,000 then). Nowdays when everything goes downhill and with almost no promotion in the main medias, it’s hard to achieve something. But still – some press, radio and TV ads were made. Even an interview with Per on one of radios, but it’s not enough as we all know…

  12. That´s right Emilio!

The first week after the album release, Roxette reached #14 in Spain. (Much better than Room Service, I think.)

I hope the promoters take it into account and they finally bring the tour to Spain!!!!!!!

  13. In addittion to what I said before, Charm School reached #10 on El Corte Inglés chart (the most important department stores in Spain).

    It’s not official, though I think it’s something significant…

  14. Hi. What about this information (someone said on Facebook) that it’s number 1 in Latvia? I searched but found no official albums chart there, only a singles chart.

  15. it is now official, just got the info.. it’s however still not published I think, I suppose that EMI gets this info before it goes official.
NICE!! They don’t play them much here in Austria…

And surprised about Spain. I hope this convinces everybody that they need to play in Spain! Don’t know what poor Spanish fans should do anymore :/ I am not blaming Rox though, I am sure they would play there tomorrow. Promoters, wake up! 🙂

  16. WOW! I can’t believe that Roxette went straight to no ONE in Switzerland with Charm School. There wasn’t much promotion going on here; unless you count Wetten Dass which was also broadcasted by our second national TV station. :-DDD
