A drink with Jonas Isacsson

Bild 169When I decided to meet Jonas Isacsson, my story about him was already written – in my head. Back then I didn’t know that it would take me another seven months to finish this text. Why? Just because some bad things happened, I didn’t have spare time to write it, my iPhone crashed and didn’t let me play the recording of the interview – and most of all I wanted to do it right, it was meant to be perfect. But in the meantime I realized that there’s no way to write a perfect article about a guy who deserves it. The more I try, the less it works. I am, however, happy now that I finally made it. Please be gentle about my English. I did it all alone, I am not a native speaker and tried my best.

My wish to meet Jonas again and write a story about him came two years ago. When I finally got the chance to really meet and talk to him, I was more than happy. Finally, I would make it to Stockholm and could go for a beer with him. Why I wanted to meet Jonas? When we – Judith and I – interviewed him for Roxetteblog the very first time (November 2009, during Night Of The Proms), I had the feeling he has a lot of stories to tell, a lot of experiences to share. When we had met for the interview, we sat more than 2 hours talking to him and we could have gone another 2 hours if he had had the time. I, however, thought that not the complete story has been told. Some months and years later I really missed him during the Roxette tour, although Christoffer Lundquist did a tremendous job. When I saw Christoffer running across the stage, hitting his guitar and making people in the audience go crazy with his acting and watching, I thought about Jonas again and the feeling I had. I thought that he is just a compeletely different guy on stage. Calm, quiet, shy, withdrawn – whatever you may call it. It fascinated me that a guy can be so lost (in a positive way) in playing the guitar on stage that you can even hear it. Every tone sounds like you feel what he wants to tell with it, every break he makes means exactly that: to be silent for a very short moment.

So, after our first interview I was really eager to talk to him again; just to hear what else he has to tell.
We meet in August 2013 again. It is a sunny day in Stockholm. It is the day of the “Tack för musiken” recording with Marie Fredriksson and it feels like a perfect day to talk about his career, life and thoughts about this and that. It is warm enough to sit outside and drink a beer – and so we do. I wanted Jonas to choose the location and he came up with a small diner in Södermalm. I ask him why he chose this location. “Because it’s so lovely and a nice location to sit outside. Many of my friends live here or around the corner.” I have a look around and notice he chose a vegetarian diner. Asked about that he says that he himself isn’t a vegetarian, but many of his friends are, but that he still loves the food. “I don’t eat that much meat actually, more fish and seafood. But this here is good food. You should try it. Although, I think they are a bit modest with spice. You should bring your own spice.” He thinks a lot before he speaks, he seems a bit nervous but still happy that we meet.

When I had passed the diner earlier I noticed a lot of drug addicts. “It’s nice anyway”, Jonas says about Södermalm after I mentioned the drug thing. “More people are around, it’s not that snobby here.” Of course, I want to know where in Stockholm it is snobby. “Östermalm. Old ladies with dogs out there and so on.” He laughs. We look around and think about Södermalm again. I read somehwere that Södermalm is the one place in Stockholm, where everyone wants to live and work. “It wasn’t like that 20 years ago”, Jonas says. He thinks again. “Pelle lives here. Pelle Alsing. I haven’t seen him in a while. I miss him.” I don’t know what to say in this moment and try to switch the topic.

Roxette Brasil interviewed Jokke Pettersson: ”Marie and I are very close since I was a child.”

Roxette Brasil (Bianca Cappelletti) did a nice interview with Jokke Pettersson, Marie’s nephew, who is going to be part of Marie’s band on tour. Here you have the translation:

Marie is the youngest child of the Fredriksson family. Her sister Anna-Lisa (who died in a car accident when Marie was 8) and Ulla-Britt were much older, so Marie had a closer relationship with Tina. In fact, they were inseparable! The family has always lived in a very musical environment and it seems that the tradition is being kept. Jokke Pettersson, Marie’s nephew will play the guitar in the band that will accompany her on tour in 2014.

Jokke kindly gave an interview to Roxette Brasil and here it is:

Roxette Brasil: – Hello, Jokke! For a start, tell us a bit more about your musical background. Has music always been present in your life? When did you start playing? What are your biggest influences?

Jokke: – Yes, music has always been a large part of my life. I started playing the drums when I was 8 and the guitar at the age of 11. In my family we were always playing music and singing, so it was natural for me to play the instruments, too.

Roxette Brasil: – We know you have a strong blues influence, but you also play great pop and wow … heavy metal? Can you tell us more about your style?

Jokke: – I started out as a big heavy metal fan and I was listening a lot to Metallica, Pantera and stuff like this when I was a kid. At a time in my life I thought that it was not enough and then learned to play all the other styles such as blues and pop. I always liked guitarists like John Scofield, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Hendrix and others.

Roxette Brasil: – In 2011 you gave an interview to a newspaper in Helsingborg, related to a United Nations day show. You were asked about playing songs from Marie (Tro, Sparvöga , Ett hus vid havet, Vinterangel and Ännu doftar kärlek) and you said that the conductor of the choir proposed the songs, who revealed that Marie is your aunt and that your mother was in the choir, too. Can you tell us more about your relationship with Marie? Are you close to each other?

Jokke: – My mother is Tina. Marie and I are very close since I was a child.

Roxette Brasil: – Tell us about your band, Ladah.

Jokke: – I and two friends are the members of Ladah, where we played jazz-rock fusion. I’m currently working a lot with my band, Karavan. We released two albums that can be found on Spotify. We toured with American Hunter Perrin and now we’re on tour with Cameron Ochs. I also have a metal band called Kayser. We will release our next album in February. I love playing different styles.

Roxette Brasil: – For those who are wondering if you’ve worked together with Marie earlier, you played the guitar on some of the songs of Min bäste vän album, right? How did she invite you to accompany her on tour?

Jokke: – Yeah, I played on Min bäste vän and also on her new album, Nu!. She called me to go on tour with her and of course I said YES! It’s an honor!

Roxette Brasil: – Marie has one of the most beautiful and the most recognizable voices in pop. For this reason, she has many fans around the world and we know that many fans will travel from their countries to join her tour. Do the pressure and anxiety increases for this reason or the fact that you are her nephew makes you more relaxed?

Jokke: – Tough question. I think the biggest reason to be calm is that I know what I’m doing. But I love Marie and her personality and it is very good of course.

Roxette Brasil: – As a final question, what are your expectations for the tour?

Jokke: – Play great music, meet cool people and have fun.

Eurovision with Dea Norberg and Magnus Börjeson

I have to realize it every year that Eurovision song contest is not for me. This year I hoped it was going to be a bit different, since it was organized by Sweden (last year’s winner: Loreen – Euphoria). Well, it didn’t make much difference.

Malta’s performance was starting with an ukulele, a bit like Gyllene Tider’s Tuffa tider, but it turned out very soon that Gianluca’s song (”Tomorrow”) has nothing to do with GT. (You can check it here.)

Dea Norberg is a real veteran Eurovision back-up singer, as this was her ninth time providing back-up vocals. This year she was supporting Robin, Sweden’s contestant (”You”). Here you can watch how it went. Some days ago a video with Robin’s back-up singers appeared on YouTube and in the short interview Dea even says hi (at 1:55) to all Roxers out there.

During the pre-show we could see another important person of the Rox gang, Magnus Börjeson. He appeared there with Six Drummers, doing a fantastic cover version of Robin’s ”You”. You can check their act here, at 21:35. Without no doubt, this was the best and most unique performance to me during the whole show last night. 😉

The winner of Eurovision 2013 is by the way Denmark, Emmelie de Forest with ”Only Teardrops”.

Sandy Mouche’s new album is out!

The band Sandy Mouche, formed by Helena Josefsson, Martinique Josefsson and the brothers Per (drums) and Ola (guitar) Blomgren, just released their latest album “Glory And Grace”. (Release date: 8th May 2013).

Helena Josefsson has previously worked with Per Gessle and sang backing vocals on many of his albums and went on tour with Roxette in 2011 as backing vocals singer.

The album is in English, features a song in French (and sounds very French!) and contains these songs:

The Garden
Rainbow
Glory & Grace
L’elefant dans la Chambre
Jealous
Last Night
Turquoise Water
Centuries
Tears In Time
Hurt

You can buy the album on CDON, Bengans or iTunes or listen to it on Spotify:

Videos for Hurt and Glory & Grace are on YouTube.

Brainpool on Twitter

2013 seems to be a good year for comebacks and setting up accounts on social media sites. 🙂 Being formed in 1993, Brainpool has its 20th anniversary this year. As we informed you earlier, the band performed on Mossagårdsfestivalen 17th June, 2012. Next to David Birde, Jens Jansson and Christoffer Lundquist, Magnus Börjeson also appeared on stage that night.

Chris said in this article that a new Brainpool album is in sight, but as we could see, release of the album wasn’t happening last year.

Now Brainpool has a Twitter account: @brainpoolband       As the band tweets:

Good to have a channel of communication on standby in case we suddenly have an idea.

Talking about ideas, we already had one. 😉 What about being the support act on a possible GT tour?
