To the question ”Which Rockbjörn is the most fun to get: Band of the year or Album of the year?” – in a chat in January, 2005 – Gyllene Tider replied:

Album of the year, because it is very difficult for an old band like us to make a relevant and popular album, which in addition is good.

Well, Dags att tänka på refrängen would deserve to be the Swedish album of the year, wouldn’t it? It’s a pity there is no ”Swedish album of the year” category anymore, but there is still space for your favourite song from the album. And you know who the Swedish live artists of the year are and which the Swedish live band of the year is, right? Gyllene Tider’s tour has not yet started (only 1 month left!), but you might already have a thought which should be the Concert of the year. So, c’mon guys & girls! Vote HERE until you drop (but at least until 28th July 😉 – each day)!

Here are the categories (it’s in Swedish, but here you have the English translation as well):

Årets kvinnliga liveartist = Female live artist of the year (it can only be Swedish)

Årets manliga liveartist = Male live artist of the year (it can only be Swedish)

Årets livegrupp = Live band of the year (it can only be Swedish)

Årets genombrott = Breakthrough artist of the year (it can only be Swedish)

Årets svenska låt = Swedish song of the year

Årets utländska låt = Foreign song of the year

Årets konsert (artist, plats) = Concert of the year (concerts only in Sweden are accepted)

Årets hårdrock / metal = Hard rock / metal artist of the year (either Swedish or foreign)

After filling it in, click on ”Nästa” (= ”Next”) and fill in your name (first name & surname), e-mail address, age (ålder) and if you are female (kvinna) or male (man). Reply to the control question, leave the tick at the first sentence (this way you won’t have to fill in the form again, as it saves your replies and you just have to click on voting the next time). If you want to receive info and offers from Aftonbladet, leave the second tick in, too. ”Tillbaka” means ”Back”, ”Rösta” means ”Vote”. That’s it. It’s much easier than it looks like. 😉

Roxette nominated for “Echo” award in Germany

Roxette are nominated for the German Echo award with their album “Charm School”. The category Roxette is nominated is called “Gruppe International Rock / Pop” – best international Rock/Pop group.  The award is really important in Germany, as much important as the Grammys in the US. There’s not a jury choosing the winner. The sales charts decide the nominees and in the end – the winner.

On the Wikipedia site it says (used Google translate):

The ranking of the winners in most categories results from the added up weeks results of the Media Control sales charts in February of one year to January of the following year. This has the consequence that the absolute sales figures – should be – distributed over the entire year. This easy distortion of the results is possible. Good sales of the artists who achieve over longer periods (no weekly current top positions in the charts) good sales results will be penalized. [1] In some categories (lifetime achievement and special rates) are the winners selected by a jury, the most successful live act is nationally determined via online voting.

The awarding will take place on March 22th in Berlin. The show will be broadcast the same evening. Other nominees are Coldplay, Sunrise Avenue, Snow Patrol and Superheavy.

Our reader Dennis informs that Roxette have been nominated several times before:

According to wikipedia Roxette were nominated for the ECHO award in the categorie “best international group” at least in the years 1992, 1993 & 1995 – (For the year 1994 no nominations were listed, but as Roxette had no new album out the year before, I guess they weren’t nominated).

Thanks for letting us know.

Roxette nominated for best live band!

Roxette made it among the finalists for Aftonbladet’s annual Rockbjörnen awards. They are nominated for “live band of the year” (“Årets livegrupp”). Now the final voting is open to the public. There’s also a blank spot for “concert of the year” (“Årets konsert”), where a vote for Roxette’s Gothenburg show would be a lovely choice. You have to fill in artist, location and month (Roxette, Göteborg, Juli). The voting is open until August 24 and you can vote daily. Let’s go!

Gold for Roxette in Cologne!

The Swedish superstars Roxette now added another trophy to their phenomenal career as part of the successful tour in Germany: The comeback album “Charm School”, released by EMI Music Germany and Starwatch Entertainment that managed to hit directly the first place of the German charts in February, sold over 100,000 copies since then. Last Thursday Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle received the Gold awards in the eve of the Cologne concert. The popularity of the Swedish duo within the German fans is visible in the impressive chart success of the latest album as well as the top ten hit “She’s Got Nothing On (But The Radio)”.

Uli Mücke, Vice President New Music of EMI Music Germany, is delighted: “We are very happy about this successful comeback of the sympathetic Swedes, with whom collaboration is simply fun. Moreover the journey of this album is still far from over.” Hans Fink, CEO of Star Watch Entertainment, adds: “I am very pleased for Marie and Per. “Charm School” is a fantastic album. It’s great that the German fans are as excited about it as we are. Congratulations!” After the sold-out Open-air concerts in June Roxette will continue with a large arena tour in October 2011.
