Gyllene Tider – Hux Flux – Gothenburg – 5th August 2023 – #17

What to do on a Saturday night in August in Gothenburg? 36,000 people knew the right answer! Gyllene Tider performed at Ullevi last night for the fourth time during their career. Young and old, different generations attended the show and made much noise. They were singing along to all songs, no matter if it was from the first albums or from the not too old ones. It was really amazing to see teenagers singing along even Flickorna på TV2 or När vi två blir en or Sjömän or Flickan i en Cole Porter-sång or literally any song. As the songwriter of all the hits, Per must feel very proud and pleased every time he stands in front of these loud crowds. But not only Per, since the magic around these songs is created by all 5 of them in the band. Göran’s Farfisa wizardry, Micke Syd’s powerful drumming style, Anders’s elegant bass playing and of course, Boogie King MP’s guitar playing together with PG’s unique voice and guitar playing. As Per always says in interviews, it’s only the 5 of them who sound like Gyllene Tider. The ladies, Dea and Malin-My add a lot to the live sound on this tour with their wonderful backing vocals and the tambourine, violin, accordion and other instruments.

As usual, Gothenburg is a magnet for international people too, so a lot of fans arrived from many countries from all over the world. Another common thing at Ullevi stadium is that a lot of people start queueing early – for any band, not only for GT – to be able to stand at the best places inside the venue, in front of the stage.

While we were waiting for the doors to open at 17:30, there was a soundcheck and we heard Vill ha ett svar! being played. Then I thought En sten vid en sjö i en skog would be changed to VHES on the setlist at night, but that wasn’t the case. VHES wasn’t played at the gig in the end.

Inside the stadium there were again screens on the two sides of the stage. We hoped for a professional DVD recording, but we could see no big cameras. I mean those ones that SVT or TV4 are using when they record a concert. Anders Roos was there and his many cameras too. If I saw it right, he was filming the whole show from the left side of the stage, so maybe something similar to the Per Gessle’s Roxette live DVD is in the making. I’m not too sure whether those camera pictures that were shown on the screens either in Stockholm or in Gothenburg were only for the screens or if they were recorded. Would have been fun if they really recorded those, because both the band and the audience always looked very cool on the screens. Let’s see what happens!

Uno Svenningsson started playing at 20:00. He and his band were so happy to play at Ullevi that they even performed a song that has not yet been released. Malin-My and Dea, just like at the two previous concerts, joined Uno for Under ytan.

Gyllene Tider started at 21:15. You could see how enthusiastic they all were to play at Ullevi again. Topping their previous Ullevi shows was their plan. They added 120% energy into everything they did on stage and the crowd appreciated it with their loud cheering, singing and clapping along.

Chrissie missed the chance to be there at the gig with the most people in the crowd, instead of her, the people could sing along Vandrar i ett sommarregn. BUT, Billy was happy to join the gang and the audience was at least as happy to have him on the setlist.

The mix Micke prepared for PG last night tasted like lakrits and raspberry, Per said. According to Micke Syd, that’s the taste of success. Haha.

All talks between the songs worked very well on the Gothenburg crowd. At the band presentation I got speechless by their reaction. They cheered the ladies and then each 5 of the guys got a long long long cheering by screaming their names many times and applauding them: MP MP MP MP! Göran Göran Göran Göran! Anders Anders Anders Anders! Micke Syd Micke Syd Micke Syd Micke Syd! Gessle Gessle Gessle Gessle! Goosebumps! When Micke came to the front, he said life is fantastic. He said it would take a bit more time for him to talk now, because he wanted to tell a true story. The Rolling Stones played Ullevi in 1982 and Micke attended the concert. He was sitting up there in the audience. When Keith Richards came up on stage and waved, everyone was screaming. Then Micke thought, damn, that’s what he wants to do and here they are at Ullevi for the fourth time. It’s magical, he said.

Micke changed his T-shirt to the one that has the print of his wife, Helena and himself on it, so he was singing Min tjej och jag in that one. Before the song he said they want to pay tribute to love with this song, the long relationship between the band and the audience. He said they are extremely grateful that so many people are coming to see them both from Sweden and from around the world.

During När alla vännerna gått hem, like in Uppsala, Per invited Uno to join them on stage. They high-fived when Uno came and after the song, the whole gang together with Uno took a bow and said goodbye to Sweden.

When I’m writing this, I’m already back home in Budapest. Strange feeling after spending a wonderful month in Sweden. 17 most amazing GT shows! The tour is not over yet though. 2 more Gyllene weekends are waiting with 3 gigs. Next stop is Fredrikstad, Norway on Saturday, 12th August! See you there if you are also coming!

Per Gessle Unplugged Tour – #7 – 23rd November 2021 – Göteborg

Unfortunately, I couldn’t attend the second Göteborg gig, had to come back home for work. My flight was at the same time as the concert, so I had to have my own PG Spotify gig up in the air. Wasn’t the same experience though, but well… Haha.

The setlist didn’t change. So it seems, this is really the one Mr. G finds the most fitting for indoor unplugged gigs on this tour.

I assume that before När vi två blir en Per mentioned again that you can write certain songs, e.g. Flickorna på TV2 only when you are very young. After Vid hennes sida someone shouted Flickorna på TV2 several times, he wanted to hear that song. Instead of playing it, Per told his anecdote regarding not wanting to play one song on tour, but Magnus convinced him. PG told he has to stand up for this one and Chris joked that now everyone knows that he is talking about Stairway To Heaven. Haha. Of course it was Sommartider and since Per told the audience that they can also stand up if they want, everyone jumped up from their seats and part of the crowd stayed standing during the rest of the gig.

Next stop is Halmstad, twice!

Amazing second evening in Gothenburg!!!! Wow! Had so much fun. Lovely to see so many intl friends in the front row! Lovely to get this truly unbelievable feedback from the entire crowd. See you in a couple of days again, folks!

Per Gessle Unplugged Tour – #6 – 22nd November 2021 – Göteborg

Göteborg’s first show on this tour got sold out so fast that an extra gig had to be added for the next day, so Göteborg gets two concerts at Lorensbergsteatern.

The gig started a couple of minutes after 19:30 and when the band got up on stage, Per greeted the audience and said it’s a bit cold in there. Christoffer agreed and said he was freezig in his feet. Everyone was laughing, since – as you know – he is barefoot on stage.

The capo sometimes lived its own life again, but it’s always fun to see Per’s adventures with fixing it on the guitar. When he managed to fix it, Chris said he’s so talented and Mr. G replied he is impressed himself. Haha.

Before Det hjärta som brinner Per said if even just one band member is changed in Gyllene Tider, the songs sound different. It’s like Titanic, it sinks. Haha. After the song Chris, Magnus and Helena stood up and Christoffer said they go and get their schnapps.

When Micke N-S brought Per his ukulele and PG told the coolest thing is to play the ukulele at Ullevi, the crowd just loved it. After Tuffa tider Per stood up a bit to stretch his legs and said he likes to stand. He even sleeps standing. The guys asked him if he is a horse. PG replied „whatever you want”!

The crowd actually had the best reactions on GT songs during the whole concert, mainly Ljudet av ett annat hjärta and Juni, juli, augusti, but they were clapping a lot too. They also liked the anecdotes and „stand-up comedy” parts very much.

When the guys and girl went off stage for the first time, part of the audience was giving a standing ovation. Then when they came back, somone shouted they should start it from the beginning. The gang liked the idea, but they went on with Födelsedag as the first song in the first encore.

When Per mentioned before När vi två blir en that one can write certain songs when he is very young and he means Flickorna på TV2, Chris reacted that nowadays it could be Flickorna på Netflix.

Last night It Must Have Been Love became It Must Have Been Jul a la Chris.

During the band presentation PG introduced Clarence and said he doesn’t have a mic, because he doesn’t sing well, but he talks a lot. Despite this they have been working together since 1986 and he has produced almost all what Per recorded. Mr. G said Clarence is amazingly talented and besides that he has his birthday today. The audience was cheering and Christoffer played a tune. We held up two GRATTIS signs for Clarence. Chris said he turned 64 and Per said he is definitely the oldest in the band. He thanked Clarence for being there.

Before Sommartider Per told the story that there was one song he didn’t want to play at all. Chris joked that it was Hotel California. Haha. Per went on with his anecdote saying that Magnus became very upset and here Magnus joked that it was because he loves Hotel California. Everyone was laughing. When Per said he stands up for this song and everyone who wants to stand up can do so, the crowd didn’t really get it. We stood up in the front, then everyone else jumped up on their feet too and stayed standing for the last song as well.

PG said he hopes to meet again and added maybe there are some in the crowd who come back tomorrow too. At the end of the show, when they took a bow, Chris put his hat on Per’s head again, but this time Per took it off and wanted to throw it on the mic stand, but it fell off. Chris picked it up when leaving the stage.

After the concert some of us waited for Clarence to come out so we could sing him the birthday song in Swedish. Magnus and Chris joined us in the singing and the birthday boy was happy. We exchanged some words with the band and Per, thanked for the evening and said goodbye.

Gyllene Tider’s GT40 Live Ullevi 2019 show is out!

8 months after Gyllene Tider’s farewell tour is over, the Golden Guys surprised us with a live show release. The concert film is the complete Ullevi show, recorded on 3rd August 2019 in Gothenburg. The concert was originally planned to be held at Slottskogsvallen, but right after the tickets went on sale it turned out to be too small, so it had to be moved to Ullevi, of course. The number of visitors at the show was 54340! Pure awesomeness! And the chance to relive the best gig on the GT40 tour is just amazing!

Since I usually stand in the very front of the crowd, I love watching the DVD recordings later, because then I can see how the stage and the crowd looked from the back and how the band saw the audience and the venue itself. The camera angles used for the GT40 shooting are fabulous. You can see so many details and you can feel yourself standing and dancing and singing along right in the middle of the crowd, in front of those 5 guys and 2 ladies in top shape, giving their 120% of energy up on stage.

I want last summer back! Watching this concert on my 24th day of quarantine I’m just grateful for it and I appreciate it even more (if possible at all) how this band could unite so many people via their music. Hopefully, the good times are back again soon and ojojoj… still can’t believe it was Gyllene Tider’s last tour. Was it? I didn’t want this Ullevi gig to end… But the good thing is that from now on I can watch it anytime!

Streaming is available . If you want to rent the film, you get a 48-hour streaming period for 4,99 USD. You will be able to stream it on supported browsers or the Vimeo mobile app and watch it on TV, mobile and tablet. While if you buy it for 9,99 USD, you can stream it anytime, download it and watch it on TV, mobile and tablet.

If streaming is not your thing and you haven’t ordered your physical copy yet, you can buy the DVD or Blu-ray at or .

Gyllene Tider – GT40 – Gothenburg – 3rd August 2019 – #14

Last night it was the third time Gyllene Tider played Ullevi. First time it was in 2004 when 58980 people went to see them, second time was in 2013 with 42223 people in the crowd. In 2019 the show was originally planned to be held at Slottskogsvallen, but right after the tickets went on sale it turned out to be a too small venue, so it had to be changed to Ullevi. Appr. a month ago it was on the news already that the Golden 5 sold more than 40k tickets for their 3rd Ullevi concert, so we estimated the number of visitors would be 50-55k. The final number is 54340! How amazing!

There was a live sound check at 4 pm, but only Det hjärta som brinner, Vandrar i ett sommarregn and Flickan i en Cole Porter-sång were rehearsed, so this meant to me there are no more new additions to the setlist.

The stage was set up the same way as in Stockholm. The part where the band members’ fix places are was the same size as usual, just the sides were longer. Meaning Mr. G could run his marathon during the gig again. Haha.

There were 2 support acts this time. The first was Christof Jeppsson, a Halmstad troubadour who we could already see in Halmstad. He was on stage from 19:30 for appr. 15 minutes. One of the songs he played was a Bruce Springsteen cover and since The Boss is quite big in Sweden and Gothenburg, he got a very loud sing-along from the crowd. The second support act was Chris Kläfford at 20:00. If you ask me who could warm up the crowd more, I would say it was Christof. It would have been great to have him on the whole tour. His musical style is closer to GT.

What I realized while we were already inside the venue was that there were many more mics on the sides of the stage. The ones you usually use when you are filming a show. Then we saw the cameras in the front and in the back, so we could be sure that Ullevi was to be filmed. So cool!

The crowd showed its sing-along side already on the Bruce cover and their clapping style we could witness during the crowd pleaser playlist. Well, Gothenburg never disappoints and the audience didn’t stay quiet during the almost 2-hour-long GT gig either. They were fantastic! They were singing along so loudly that you could hear their voices more than Per’s vocals. But you shouldn’t imagine it in a disturbing way. I mean it was not because there was any technical hiccup and the sound on stage would be low. Not at all. It was just that the voices of more than 54k people resulted in a beautiful vocal addition to the whole gig. The crowd was not only active when it came to singing. They were also clapping along and put and kept their hands in the air quite many times. I was standing next to a guy who was even headbanging during the show. Before the gig we talked and he mentioned he is a tram driver in Gothenburg and played GT during the whole week for the passangers. He already saw the guys and girls on several shows on this tour. Cool thing!

The band was in top shape, even if they had no day off after their Eskilstuna show. The fact that the concert was recorded probably made them excited anyway, but the huge crowd and their activity probably added even more to their already higher than 100% energy level.

The athmosphere was really awesome inside Ullevi. You have to experience it in person to be able to imagine it. When even the security supervisor is dancing and singing along you can be sure you are at the best party place in town.

Micke Syd took a selfie from the stage while he presented his intro talk to Låt denna trumslagarpojke sjunga! Actually, they should have taken a group selfie, the 5 boys and 2 girls. When in Ullevi. It was also funny that Micke Syd looked at the guys who wrote the lyrics on a sheet for him in Eskilstuna and his gestures asked: no lyrics this time? Haha. The crowd already put on their mobile phones’ lights during Micke’s song and they were also on during När alla vännerna gått hem, of course. It looked beautiful in such a huge stadium. After Ljudet av ett annat hjärta, Per let the audience shout ojojojojojojoj and oh-ohohoh-ohoh for a longer time. The band was amazed at the crowd reaction.

The setlist was the same as in Stockholm, which means 23 songs, including Tylö Sun and Billy. Yay!

Åsa (who is celebrating her birthday today – happy birthday!) was there of course and we saw her a few times in the front (dancing and singing along too), but I guess she was filming more from another spot during the show, because it was a bit too busy in the front due to the pro filming of the concert. Micke Syd’s wife, Helena also came to the front to film a bit towards the end of the gig.

Anders Roos, the band’s house photographer set his cameras all around the stage last night too and he was ready to take pictures of the gang from the back when they were taking a bow. He took some when all 7 of them were on stage, but Per must have been so impressed and excited that after the girls went off stage and he threw some guitar picks from his mic stand and waved goodbye, he started walking off the stage too. Anders, Micke Syd and Göran were still standing there for the 5 of them taking a bow, but MP was following Per and since they went off stage, the 3 guys decided to follow them too. Haha. A pity, but well…

Love it when my ranking of the best concerts has to be changed when I see an actual gig. What can I say? Ullevi just became my No. 1 show on the tour! And if you ask me, if it wasn’t the exact same day as when Pink played Stockholm, GT’s 3rd Ullevi gig would have been even closer to sold out. Not that more than 54k people are too few. And hey, we heard the DJ who was the support to Pink played Sommartider in Tele2 Arena. 😉

Now a day off and on Monday GT play Kalmar!

P.S.: Aftonbladet wrote a review again. 4/5 for last nite’s show. Nice!

GT after the show:

ULLEVI HERREGUD!
