Gyllene Tider – Hux Flux – Piteå – 26th July 2023 – #11

After a couple of days off, Gyllene Tider reached the most northern spot on this tour and did a fantastic show in Piteå.

The stage was set in the opposite direction vs. past years. Probably, because this way Pite Havsbad could sell dinner tickets as well. So the ones who wanted to see the concert from the terrace restaurant, they could book a table there in advance.

When Per greeted the crowd at GT’s eighth summer tour and fifth comeback tour, he said that they had several gigs in Piteå in the past and they always had much fun, but tonight they would top it. “If you know the lyrics, sing along. If you don’t know the lyrics, sing along anyway.” The audience was very loud during the songs they knew the lyrics to.

Both Chrissie and Billy decided not to travel up North. When the black & blue checkered guitar was brought to Per for the first time, he said he bought a 12-string Rickenbacker in the ’80s, a similar one to that of MP’s. George Harrison had one like that and Tom Petty too. Then it was obvious, it’s Vandrar i ett sommarregn that they would play.

PG was very satisfied with the ginger tea mix Micke Syd prepared for him. They were joking around with it again.

Before Tuffa tider, the ukulele intro talk contained the fact that in winter you can bump into Micke Syd on Costa del Sol while he is playing ukulele. He plays Här kommer alla känslorna and he says it works very fine with old Spanish ladies. Haha. After Tuffa tider, one of the security guys tried to take a selfie with Micke Syd in the pic. Micke realized it and knelt down behind the guy, so he could take that selfie.

Before Min tjej och jag, Micke asked the audience if it’s OK if they do a really good gig, we all go to the bath after. „It’s a good idea now, but it might become a very bad idea soon.” When he said which song would come, the crowd got loud and cheered. He said he loves it when guys scream when he mentions this song title. Micke said that at the rehearsals they tried the trick with Göran, that he was jumping on Micke Syd’s back how they did that in the Parkliv movie, but it doesn’t work anymore. He invited Holmsund’s finest (Malin-My) and Bräkne-Hoby’s finest (Dea) to the front and they animated the crowd to put their hands up in the air and wave to the left, to the right. It looked fab on the screen too.

Anders was moving around the stage a bit more last night. This time he also came forward to stand next to Per and MP while playing the bass. That’s cool, we like it!

The best sing-along songs last night were Juni, juli, augusti, Flickan i en Cole Porter-sång and När vi två blir en.

Next stop is Stockholm on Friday.

Per after the show:

Thx for an amazing gig in Piteå last night. So many faces we recognized + so many new ones!!! Bright light all thru the evening, we’re in the north and we had a blast!!!

Gyllene Tider – GT40 – Piteå – 24th July 2019 – #9

After the gig in Lysekil it would have been Ronneby’s turn, but as everyone knows, Per got sick and Ronneby and Kalmar have been postponed to later dates. Thank God those gigs were not cancelled, so we can still see GT in those 2 towns.

We’d been worried about Mr. G since it barely happened during his 40-year-long career that he had to cancel shows. So it must have been more serious than just man flu. We were expecting news any minute to see if the planned gig in Piteå would happen. Fortunately, 2 days before the show Per felt himself strong enough to share the info he felt much better and he confirmed the gig on Wednesday would happen. More than that, on Tuesday we got the news that the gang even decided for a last show in Halmstad on August 10th, which is awesome.

The venue in Piteå I knew from Per’s 2017 tour. Pite Havsbad is a beautiful place at the seaside. Many arrived by boats and watched the concert from the sea. This time Pite Havsbad beat their record, because now there were 13491 people in the audience. The latest record was from 2006 and then there were appr. 11600 people for a concert (John Fogerty). Not bad! Per mentioned that the last time GT played Piteå was August 1981, but then they performed at another venue.

There was no new song added to the setlist and on top of it, it was 2 songs less vs. the usual one. The guys and girls skipped Tylö Sun and the first song in the first encore. For this first gig after Per’s sickness I can understand that. One could hear that he is still not 100% healthy. He kept his voice low and saved it also on those songs on which otherwise there is more power in his singing. He didn’t save energy on his moves though. The whole band supported him very well and the crowd was very active. They were singing along loudly and clapping all the time. Before the encores they were singing mainly Sommartider, but tried out other loud vocals too. Per changed a few lines in 2-3 songs to nana lala singing, which was cute, but found the correct lines quickly. As I heard, this was the first crowd that knew most of the lyrics to Låt denna trumslagarpojke sjunga! Nice. The new songs worked very cool on this audience.

Now a day off and tomorrow the gang plays at another beautiful venue, Dalhalla!

GT after the show:

Underbara PITEÅ, tack för att vi fick komma till ert fantastiska Havsbad och dessutom få sätta PUBLIKREKORD!!! Tjohooo, Micke blev så glad att han tog en ostmacka! Och vädret var på vår sida också. Nu styr kosan imorgon mot Dalhalla. Syns vi där?

Per Gessle – En vacker kväll in Piteå, Sweden – 29th July 2017 – #12

Regarding promotion, I think Piteå was the most well-prepared for Per Gessle’s concert. Coming from the direction of Umeå, we already saw little boards on the highway that there would be a PG gig in Piteå. Also Pite Havsbad was very active on their Facebook page informing the guests about every detail. They expected Per to beat the audience record (appr. 12000) since on concert day they sold 1 ticket / minute, but in the end there were 8000 people in the crowd.

By arriving to our hotel, at the reception there were people asking the receptionist about the concert. It was funny that the woman there said mostly older people would go and see PG. Haha. Well, not really…

At the venue there was no queueing, you arrived and you were just let in after you got a nice paper wristband. Hardcore fans (Argentina, Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, the UK) could get to the front row very easily this way. As the stage was on the seaside, we could go and have a look at the beach. It was a very nice setting. While walking on the beach, Andreas Dahlbäck came to us and we had a little chat with him. He is a very nice guy, very down-to-earth. Among other things he mentioned that Per asked him to find out something different as the intro to Sommartider. So we expected something new from him at the show.

There was no support act in Piteå and the gig started earlier than at any other place. The crowd was singing När vi två blir en and Sommartider before the band came up on stage. It was fun. PG & Co entered the stage at 20:30. I streamed the start of the show (På promenad genom stan) live on our Facebook page. Watch it HERE!

When Per first talked to the audience before Juni, juli, augusti, he mentioned that he played in Piteå in August 1981. 36 years ago, wow.

As Ola Gustafsson was born in Luleå, very close to Piteå, the crowd was cheering him loudly, mainly when Per introduced him during the band presentation. Malin-My Wall is from Holmsund, also not too far from Piteå, so the crowd was cheering Malin-My loudly as well. Per liked it so much that he repeated Holmsund several times, then even Magnus joined in mentioning Holmsund and the crowd was still cheering.

I actually expected a much louder audience during the songs, because it’s said that the more North you go in Sweden, the louder the crowds are, but there were rather smaller groups here and there in the audience who let their voice heard. However, Småstadsprat had a united sing-along. It was lovely.

There were some people in the middle who couldn’t behave well, so the security guys had to step up on the fence in front of us, ruining 2-3 songs this way, because we couldn’t see the stage from them…

This was the first concert where Per used THIS guitar for Ljudet av ett annat hjärta, Spegelboll and Gå & fiska!

The Look sing along was a bit messed up, too funny. Per was singing the nananananas being a bit late, so the crowd couldn’t join in how they should. Helena made a little correction, so we went on with the right nananananas.

Andreas did a new intro to Sommartider indeed. We already loved the one he played earlier, but this new one rocked big time! Such a fab drummer he is! During the concert he threw one of his drum sticks to the front of the stage. Sandra Knospe could get it via a security guy, then she showed it to Andreas in between 2 songs to thank it. It was broken. Then at the end of the show, after the band took a bow and said goodbye, Andreas rushed to his drumset and grabbed one more drum stick to give it to Sandra from hand to hand. It was so cool!

Chris seemed to be fine after his bleeding Joyride fun in Östersund. He had a plaster on his hand.

18 songs on the setlist is almost festival length…, but we enjoyed the show regardless.

Per after the show:

GIG #12! Pite Havsbad! Oh yea! What a place. one of the most beautiful settings I’ve ever played! So many lovely people. 8000? 9000? 10000? I dunno. They all sounded like a united nation!!! Last time I played Piteå ws in August 1981!!! Amazing. And, oh yes, we got a drum solo from mr Dahlbäck! Where will this surrealistic pillow end???? /P.
