Music Against Cancer – a successful charity auction supported by Roxette

As we reported about it earlier, Marie and Per supported Musik Mot Cancer, a non-profit organization to raise money for Barncancerfonden Väst (children’s cancer foundation) and the children’s department of the hospital in Norra Älvsborg. They signed 3 guitars and some other Roxette and solo project related things. The end of the auction was on 16th November, on Music Against Cancer Day. Anyone could bid on all items from all around the world. The organizers first hadn’t planned with fans from abroad, but it soon turned out for them that there were many who wanted to bid mainly on items related anyhow to the Rox World. Musik mot cancer was very fast replying to all the questions regarding the auction and they also translated a huge part of their website into English to help foreign Roxers understand what was going on and how they could bid on guitars and stuff.

The closure of the auction was organized as an event in Trollhättan, Sweden, where the guests could see all the items on display. The final bids could be taken in person, too, but the online platform was also available until the end of the auction. For a very long time it seemed that the guitar signed by both Marie and Per would be the one with the highest bid, but in the end it was Peter Lemarc’s guitar. Its final price was 25 000 SEK.

The second highest final price was that of the Roxette guitar, 20 000 SEK. Interesting info is that the winning bid for the Rox guitar (besides the guitars signed by Håkan Hellström and In Flames) came from Folke Pettersson, from Lilla Edet. He says he comes from a musical family, but he was bidding mainly because he finds the cause very important. The guitar signed by only Per was auctioned for 9 000 SEK, the one signed by only Marie for 7 000 SEK.

From the total of 83 items on auction 16 was related anyhow to the Rox World. Musik mot cancer collected 270 000 SEK to help the fight against cancer. 17% of this amount of money comes from items signed by Marie and Per. What a fantastic result! The final prices for each item you can check HERE.

Congrats to the organizers! Wishing them as much success with their future projects as they had with this one! Huge thanks to Marie and Per for supporting such a great cause and to all the participants who with their bids helped to raise this much money!

Roxette 30th Anniversary Tour: Krasnodar, Russia – November 16 – #9

The 9th concert was held in Krasnodar tonight. The venue, Basket Hall was big enough to have screens on the 2 sides of the stage, so those who were sitting in the back could clearly see what was happening on the scene. However, during How Do You Do! it seemed those who handled the screens got lessons from the guys who did the Roxette Live – Travelling The World DVD. No fast cuts, but quick changes between close-ups and big screens. Not sure if it went like this during all uptempo songs.

It’s always interesting to hear what opinion people who attend a Roxette concert have. Nice to read that even those who state they are not really Roxette fans, just know their songs and know some of their lyrics by heart had a blast and would go to another Rox gig anytime. They also showed very well how much they knew the lyrics and were singing along during the whole concert.

After 2 shows with less songs, it seems today there were no problems with the organization at the venue, so the setlist was complete again.

Per informed after the show:

KRASNODAR UPDATE: Truly fantastic gig in K. Superb crowd, band in a most playful mood. Clips tomorrow. Now r.o.x.a.i.r. back to Sweden for a while. Time for Pelle to wash his hair. Thanx everyone for showing up tonite and making this a true everlasting memory. Sincerely hope we can come back and make some more noise!! Cheers, P&Co.

The families will surely be very happy to have the guys and ladies back in Sweden, even if it’s only for some days. Have a great time at home, you all!

Next gig is on Wednesday (19th November) in St. Petersburg, where there will also be a support act, for the first time on this tour.

Roxette 30th Anniversary Tour: Rostov-on-Don, Russia – November 14 – #8

Roxette performed at Rostov-on-Don’s Sports Palace tonight. They met a loud crowd there and made everyone sweat on and off stage. Per was so much on a high he even stormed over Christoffer’s mic stand. Dea was fast enough to catch it and Jakob Johnzén (Christoffer’s technician) rushed up to the stage to set everything back to normal. You can see this action in the Joyride video (at about 3:30) taken by Tiina Pitkänen. During Christoffer’s intro to Joyride, Dea and Magnus did a warmly welcomed dance.

The plush toy koala, whose name is still unknown was watching the gig from next to Pelle’s drum again. As we mentioned in our post yesterday, it’s there since the 2nd show (Khabarovsk). As Evgeny Perekopskiy told us, a fan threw it to the stage in Vladivostok when Marie and Per were leaving after the show ended. We know about another plush toy kept as a talisman on stage during the tour in Brazil in 2011. It was a pink bunny. Thanks for helping us to find it, Bianca Martins Cappelletti.

The concert started with an appr. half an hour delay, again because of poor organization at the venue. So the setlist was shorter this time, too.

Per’s thoughts after the gig:

ROSTOV ON DON UPDATE: Fab gig tonite. Super lovely crowd and a very relaxed band. Hot + sweaty = we like it like that! >Thanx everyone for making so much noise!!! /P.

Next gig is on Sunday (16th November) in Krasnodar.

Roxette 30th Anniversary Tour: Saratov, Russia – November 12 – #7

While Roxers were busy with all the pre-sale stress, hunting for the best seats at the seated shows, buying their tickets for the European leg of the tour in 2015, the 7th concert was held in Saratov tonight. The show was in a very small, cozy venue. According to a police report there were a bit more than 2000 people. The gig started appr. 1 hour later than planned. As fans informed, it was again because of poor organization. People had to wait for long at the entrance, just like in Novosibirsk. It seems that cozy venues have this issue in Russia. Unfortunately, the venue was not the best one from those fans’ point of view who had their seats on the sides, because from there (as you can also see on these photos) they couldn’t really see the whole stage. Better said, they couldn’t see the whole picture of what was happening on the stage. However, Duracell Bunny Per, Dea and Professor Lundquist did their best with going to the very sides of the stage, turned towards that part of the audience and played for them. The crowd was grateful and very loud, found the concert super, so one could forget about the negative sides of the poor organization.

Marie changed her white jacket to a black one and Per’s jacket had a night off this time again (it was too hot inside the venue). Marie was wearing her ”I Am Who I Am” tee and of course, she was barefoot. The warming up video Per shared on Roxette Official is to die for! Marie and Dea singing hand in hand. Lovely! We want more of backstage moments like this, Mr G!

Too bad, but the setlist was shorter than usual this time again. Perfect Day and Queen of Rain were left out (thanx for the info, Evgeny Perekopskiy), so it was the same setlist as in Novosibirsk.

Per posted after the concert:

SARATOV UPDATE: Truly great gig tonite. The most fab crowd imaginable in spite of the hardcore sweaty smell in the volleyball arena with no oxygen at hand! But we all survived and had a blast! Thanx for showing up and making this a truly great memory for all of us! Cheers, P.

Next gig is on Friday (14th November) in Rostov-on-Don.

Roxette 30th Anniversary Tour: Yekaterinburg, Russia – November 9 – #6

Before the show day, Per gave 4 interviews to the press in Yekaterinburg. Two for TV’s (one of them was for Yekaterinburg TV (the link directly to YouTube), part of the other one can bee seen here (and on YouTube the same), but the complete interview you can watch here), another for a radio (available also as video) and the fourth for a newspaper. So the local media was well interested in Roxette. Last time they played here was March 2011 and one could think it might be too early to come back to a city after 3.5 years, but definitely, it wasn’t the Yekaterinburg crowd who was thinking this way.

From what we heard from fans and as Per also mentioned in his updates, tonight’s concert felt like it was the best so far during the tour. Sometimes it seems that the best show is always the one you have just attended, but looking at the stuff available online thanks to the 21st century and to all those recording something, it was a cool gig indeed. Great energy on and off the stage, Marie is getting stronger and stronger, her voice is shining, Per’s left leg couldn’t stop stomping and the band was amazing, too. The crowd was very loud and they went crazy when they heard the intro to ”Joyride” Christoffer played for them. He performed ”Pesenka pro medvedey” (song about bears). Even those who are not hardcore Roxers said the concert was fantastic and they enjoyed it to the full.

The setlist was the same as on the previous concert.

Per wrote after the show (whatever the problem was with the showers):

EKATERINBURG UPDATE: Great great show tonite. Best so far, says Clarence & Pelle. They might be right. We had a blast. Beautiful crowd. Thanx everyone!!!!! We love this place (except the showers…)! /P.

After a while, being still excited, he shared some videos and the pic of the audience taken by MNS with this text:

EKATERINBURG! THANK YOU!!!! ALL THE LOVE THERE IS! SEE YOU AGAIN! P&CO

Next gig is on Wednesday (12th November) in Saratov.
